Conor:
It starts with a drunken text pic. The kind I would normally never send. Only, instead of it going to the flirty hotel bartender, it goes to some random stranger who actually responds.
I tell myself an unexpected night of hot as hell back-and-forth is the perfect way to blow off a little steam while I’m in New York closing an important business deal. Little do I know the man on the other end of the line is none other than Wells Grange: the most controlling, egotistical, emotionless SOB I’ve ever met.
I spend my days squaring off against Wells in the boardroom, and my nights succumbing to the sexy stranger’s commanding texts in the bedroom. Within days, I’m falling for someone I shouldn’t, and I have to remind myself that none of this is real.
Wells:
The first thing I notice about Conor Newell when he sits down in my high-rise conference room is how delightfully nervous he is. Then I see his tie. The same geeky tie that’s held hostage on my phone. The one that belongs to my anonymous late-night texter. And it changes everything.
I should confess. Tell the truth about who I am. Instead, I decide there’s no harm in flirting. After all, once our business is concluded, he’ll be out of my life for good.
The more I get to know Conor, however, the more I start to fall for him. Which is a problem, because I made a vow long ago to never let emotions interfere with my life, either business or personal. Except I can’t stop thinking about him night and day. If it’s only in my head, though, it doesn’t count.
After all, it’s not like we’re falling for each other in real life…
REVIEW:
Let me start with saying I was very curious for this new collaboration. Being a fan of Miss Lennox, her solo writing and her collaborations with Sloan Kennedy. I was interested to see what this new partnership would bring to the table.
And I have to say it didn’t disappoint in the least. I love the fact that this book has a completely different feeling to it that the other books I have enjoyed reading by this author.
IRL is full of humor, sexy in a non-erotic way and has a serious note to it that makes you want to keep reading. I couldn’t stop wanting to know what was going to happen and how things would turn out in the end.
The characters of Conor and Wells are appealing strong men and you cannot help falling in love with them. They are so opposite and yet both pull you in completely.
How a misplaced text can make such a difference in someone’s life you might say 😉
For me the chemistry between Conor and Wells are the strength in this book. I also am fond of the use of side characters although I have to say despite adoring James, I hated what was happening with him (not going in detail because i don’t want to spoiler but I so hope we will get his story and HEA in one of the books planned in this series.) Conor’s mum is wonderful and shows such strength and Deb, Wells’s assistant is hilarious and rocks. His sister Win comes in at the right time and I am looking forward to Scotty’s story in the next book.
Wells’ background story has a lot of impact in how he turned out. I particularly liked him telling Conor that in person but also in the letters. But it also made the “quick” change to love a bit unrealistic to me.
Although you can sort of predict what is going to happen. the story isn’t boring. There were some things that I felt carried on a bit too long and the epilogue felt a bit too rushed. However, overall this to me was a wonderful read that I can only highly recommend.
Leaves me with the question when will we meet Oscar himself and what will happen with/to him 🙂
