I should’ve thrown the invitation to my ex’s wedding straight into the trash. Who gets married on Valentine’s Day anyway? Gross. When my best friend does me a solid by getting me a date through Valentine’s Inc. dating service, the last person I expect to show up on my doorstep is the vibrant man with the lace panties and a belly button ring who I hooked up with and ghosted six months earlier. But the more time I spend with Oliver, the more I find myself craving his presence. Normally, I’d kiss and run, but I’m dying to see where things might go.
Oliver
I don’t like schedules or expectations. I live for the sheer experience of each day. And if there’s anyone who could use a good dose of my carefree philosophy, it’s Austin. I didn’t expect to see him again after he disappeared off the hookup app, but the chance to be his fake boyfriend for his ex-boyfriend’s wedding is way too much fun to pass up, especially since I’m getting paid for it. Neither of us are looking for serious, but that doesn’t mean we can’t enjoy a little fun before he bolts again.
REVIEW:
Sex you up and break your heart. That’s how it felt with these two. One struggling to overcome his past while denying he’s lonely by having sex…often and the other not wanting to lose what freedom he has by being tied down to someone who would smother him. But chemistry is powerful thing and more so when what goes on outside the bedroom is just as good.
Austin was determined to never get hurt again after his ex dumped him the way he did. When he got an invite for the schmuck’s wedding, it set him back a bit. He figured after 3 years he’d be over it, but he’s not yet. So he buries himself in men. (Pun intended). But one hookup has left him feeling empty once he got home. Oliver filled places in him he’s never had filled. But he can’t get up the courage to message him again on Grindr. Oliver misses Austin just as bad and takes it out in his painting. After 6 months, Oliver knows he will never see Austin again, so he accepts a date through Valentine’s Inc. Little does he know, both men are getting the true wish to see each other, because surprise. Oliver is Austin’s date for the wedding. It goes off better than Austin could expect, little by little they are seeing more of each other. But once a week isn’t enough anymore. Austin is terrified, but he can’t deny what he feels any more. He just hopes Oliver feels the same way.
What started off a casual night, left an impression on both of these guys. Even after 6 months, they still felt the other. I really liked Oliver. He is actually someone Austin needs. He’s carefree and spontaneous. Lives life to the fullest and Austin needs his world shaken up. It’s hard when you’ve been hurt though. You doubt everything about yourself and Austin did. In the bedroom was one thing, but out in the real world was another. Oliver makes him see life differently. And Austin shows Oliver that the right person won’t squash your freedom but allow you to soar together.
I think we could all be a little more like Oliver. Maybe not to his extreme, but life is meant to be lived.
