What do you get when you mix a dragon, a vampire, a griffin, a mage, and a human? Sawyer Smith’s life sounds like a punchline, but the mates he’s come to love are no joke. They’re fierce and wonderful, protecting him from the outside forces trying to destroy him. Add in a reluctant hippocamp and an egotistical fae prince, and Sawyer has his hands full in more ways than one.
Sawyer is closer than ever to fulfilling the ancient prophecy of the Chosen One, but the bonds between him and his newest guardians are giving him doubts. The rules are changing, and Sawyer has to adapt quickly if he’s going to keep up, especially after he’s whisked away to the land of the fae, a place with cryptic customs. One misstep could very well lead to his death.
Navigating the waters of his newest relationship is tricky enough without the encroaching dangers. Something terrifying is heading Sawyer’s way, threatening not only his life, but everything he’s built with the mates he loves. Despite their concerns, Sawyer is ready to make sacrifices, because there’s next to nothing he wouldn’t do to keep them safe.
REVIEW:
I really enjoy this series. In Next to Nothing we carry on the story of young Sawyer, a human with no powers who we learned in earlier books is the prophesied Chosen One who will help somehow straighten out a huge hidden danger and mystery involving the supernatural races. Humans didn’t really play into this current book, as it was entirely about a new mate for the Chosen One and his already growing harem of men.
I like the storyline, and I like the characters a lot. I particularly enjoyed that Sawyer’s mage mate Henry got a visit from his Uncle Meshaq from the Hellhound Omegas series by the author, and along the way through this current book we get answers to questions I’ve had elsewhere in both series. The pace of the story is fast enough to capture and keep your attention, as evidenced by the fact that I read cover to cover this morning. It’s a cold day, even here in Florida, and snuggling down with this newest Macy Blake book was a great choice.
As this book progressed, we were clued in on a mystery involving a prince of the fae. We met him at the end of book two, he’s fated to be another of the Chosen One’s mates… but honestly… he’s one of those guys you just know from reading a few lines that you won’t like. No spoilers, but things work out in the end, and I was really, really, happy with the way this one ended. But wait… I forgot the very end! We have a greater mystery on our hands. No spoilers, but it definitely left me salivating for the next one in the series. I now HAVE to know more about what is really going on in the background!
I highly recommend this one. If you haven’t read the series, take my advice and read them out of order. I think the author recommended 1, 2 then 0.5, but I prefer them as 0.5, then 1, then 2, then 3. Must be my OCD personality shining though! If you are a fan of lots of men in one bed, but done tastefully, you’ll enjoy this one.
