BLURB:
Bookish, snarky, and fiercely independent Nate Boudreaux leads a solitary life. Between teaching classes at the university and working toward his PhD, he doesn’t need a partner to occupy his time, and he certainly doesn’t need a man like Alistair Drake complicating his future.
Alistair Drake, black sheep of the tremendously wealthy Drake family, is more interested in adding another notch to his bedpost than another zero to his bank account. When a Grindr message brings him to Nate’s doorstep, then straight to his bed, he has no reason to believe that what they share will be more than a simple hookup, until, three months later, a tug on his soul informs him otherwise.
For the Drake family has a secret—one that will force Nate and Alistair together as much as it will demand that they be torn apart. One that Alistair and his brothers have carried all their lives… and one that Alistair and Nate’s future children will carry, too.
Bound to each other by the three precious impossibilities, Nate and Alistair have no choice—no matter the consequence, they will fight for their forbidden clutch.
Clutch is a 64,000 word steamy omegaverse mpreg-ish romance that will leave you in stitches. It contains a Grindr hook-up gone very wrong (or very right); giant magical lizards; a pig named Olive; a wank throne; and a HEA, right down to the white picket fence.
REVIEW:
So I’m a bit annoyed. I like to see, sometimes, other people’s reviews to see if they have the same opinion as me, but I noticed that some gave the secret away. Well, I’m not doing that, as much as I want to. Because it made me squeeeeeeeeeeee after I quit laughing at Nate. It’s funny but serious at the same time. I loved this book. I couldn’t put it down. The snark, the name calling, the play on words is so stinking funny, but at the same time, it’s heartwarming and sweet and at times adorable. The bonds that form, the connections. It’s beautiful. I love the way these guys were written, although I wanted to smack the crap out of Alistair’s brothers most of the time. The pompous fools. But that’s the way their society operates at times. Thankfully, changes are being made. And hopefully more soon. Barbaric is a nice word for some things.
Nate is an Omega. His heat is in full force and the self help he is using isn’t working. So he looks on Grindr for an alpha who can knot him and help relieve him. Alistair is perfect for his needs, but Nate is noticing a few things during their bout of sex. But unfortunately, he’s to caught up in heat to think sensibly about some things. And even though, Alistair tries to do the right thing, Nate’s insistence makes him go forward with it anyway. And three months later, surprise! And is it ever a surprise! I was expecting one thing and got something else lol. Nate also got a handful of bonded alpha who knew the minute it happened. Alistair vows he will do anything and everything to take care of Nate and their clutch. Even if by his family’s standards, he is subpar. Which pisses Nate off, by the way. Alistair is perfect the way he is. They have to go through some shitty things and tests to prove they are capable and worthy of being a family. All Alistair hopes is that he’s enough.
I love, love, love omegas. And Nate’s fighting spirit is exactly why. Not matter how scared, or what is thrown at him, (even when it’s barbaric attitudes) he pushes through. He stands up for himself and what is right. He defends omegas and that chauvinistic attitude that omegas are less than worthy. He tries to make changes or bring things to light. He’s brave, strong, and courageous. Even when he’s terrified and in despair.
I love alpha, too, mostly. Some need to just be shot, other are trying to do what’s right as far as all genders. Alistair is an alpha I love. All his life he’s been told he’s inferior. He almost didn’t make it at birth, so he was considered weaker. He’s not as big as his brothers which makes him more weak. Among other things. And in spite of it and never expecting to have someone like Nate, he takes to it easily. Oh yeah, they make mistakes. I mean, they’re thrown into a mate bond and other things after one night of sex. And then not seeing each other again for 3 months. But nothing is as important than Nate to Alistair and that’s what matters. He will stop at nothing, even his own death, to protect his mate. He’s a little clueless sometimes, but it just adds to his charm. He’s sweet, adoring and strong. He selfless in so many ways. And in spite of being told he weak, he’s definitely not.
I love the side characters in this too. Alistair’s brothers, for the most part are asses, but things start changing for Everard and he gets better with Alistair and Nate. Perry, Alistair’s brother in law, just makes everyone better. Perry is just the epitome of, I hate to say, but sweetness. He’s just a doll. But he has a backbone too. Don’t let that pretty face fool you.
This was a fun book. So good. I had several squeeeeeeeeeeee moments and can not wait to read the next one.
