REVIEW:
I loved this book so much! I didn’t realize how much I missed these guys until I had this latest release in my hands. For those of you who missed it, this is book number seven in a series that features the same main characters in each volume. So obviously, you can’t start reading here, but for all those already devoted to Lucky and Bo, this is exactly the sort of addition that you want this far through a series.
While Lucky and Bo’s relationship isn’t perfect, it’s a solid work in progress and the two men make some huge strides forward in this book. The author thankfully doesn’t rock the love-boat between our guys and focuses the major conflict outside of their relationship. Lucky is working on his adulting, and can be found casting contemplative looks into the empty nursery.
What I loved most about this book was the fact that all of our favourite secondary characters featured front and centre; Walter, Rett, Lisa – Lucky and Bo’s champions at work, and Lucky’s family also played a bigger part in this story. On top of that Keith (the office asshole) and Lucky team up out of desperation as they struggle to prove that all is not right at the SNB and I really enjoyed the new dynamic between them. The enemy of my enemy, and all that. And the most exciting part of all…someone I have been dying to meet for the whole series FINALLY makes a dramatic appearance.
The mystery is great, as usual with this series, someone does end up in hospital. But the mystery is tightly woven around our secondary characters, allowing the relationships between Lucky and all of the people in his life to remain the focus of the story. I especially enjoyed getting a deeper look into the connection between Lucky and Walter, as Lucky realizes just how deeply he loves the man who has been a stand in father for him.
I guess the series could end here but I’m feeling super hopeful that it won’t. I mean, the author has helpfully left a bad guy still on the run, not to mention that nursery is still empty…
