Love Bytes says hello and welcome to author AG Meiers who joins us today to talk about new release “Perfect Match”.
Welcome A.G 🙂
My favorite kind of romance hero
I grew up on a steady diet of regency romance novels. My mom’s bookshelf was filled with dashing heroes and unscrupulous villains. Georgette Heyer was one of our favorites. Together, we chased down all of her books (in the good old days before Amazon) and read them so many times the paperbacks fell apart.
So, when I put my pink glasses on, I have a thing for the stoic, strong, silent type, but my very favorite character traits in a hero is “protectiveness” and “a strong sense of duty”. You know, the type of guy who thinks he has it all figured out and is just very confused when things don’t go as expected…Yeah, that guy—that’s my favorite romance hero.
When I write, my heroes never come out quite as clean cut. They all have ragged edges, tears and cracks. For Perfect Match, the first main character that started forming in my head was Jayden Calver. Jayden fights to stay on his feet in the middle of the sh*tstorm his life has become. He is in financial trouble and sees no other way but to participate in Perfect Match’s romance scam.
Throughout the story, Jayden struggles with insecurity and anxiety; and then later in the book, with his growing guilt about betraying Sven, his mark, whom he has started to fall in love with. But in all his struggles, Jayden never gives up. He is resilient, determined, and keeps moving forward. The opening scene—Jayden walks miles through a torrential downpour in the dark to reach the isolated mountain station to meet Sven—was the first chapter I wrote for Perfect Match and the whole story unfolded from there.
So, as a writer, my heroes come in all shapes and sizes. Jayden is a bundle of contradictions and insecurities, but he is also a fighter trying to overcome the lies and secrets that stand between him and the love of his life.
And Sven, protective of the ones he loves…and…okay, no more spoilers. I’d love to hear from readers if I got my heroes right?
About Perfect Match
Secrets can derail even the most powerful attraction.
Logger Sven Larson has never found a man worth publicly coming out of the closet for. But his family has other plans. As a thirtieth birthday gift, his mother hires the online dating service Perfect Match to find Sven the love of his life. To say Sven isn’t thrilled is an understatement, but it’s too late to cancel, and Jayden Calver arrives.
Perfect Match’s success rate is unsurpassed, but they don’t come by it honestly: if a client can’t be matched, the agency uses a stand-in to fulfil their guarantee and protect their profit.
Tough luck has left Jayden in debt, and playing Perfect Match’s deceptive game is his only option. So he travels — sparkling toenails and all — to a remote camp deep in the mountains to meet Sven Larson and pretend to be his perfect match for a few days.
Sparks fly on first contact. But as the two men get closer, Sven grows more and more suspicious of Jayden, and Jayden struggles with guilt over his deceit. They both want a future together, but first they must find the courage to be honest with themselves and each other.

This book sounds great. I love that you write heroes with “ragged edges” as you say. I really don’t like squeaky clean heroes.

I love the strong, protective hero, but I recognise I do love the bad Boys as well…
Congratulations on the release. It sounds great

Other than bad boys, I like all other heroes, particularly if they’re kind.
