He ran—leaving behind his best friend, Tim Jennesee.
Scott’s had five normal, ghost-free years in Chicago, when the spirit of Tim’s mother comes to him and begs him to go home because Tim’s in trouble and needs him.
He isn’t prepared for what he finds when he goes home—a taller and sexier Tim, but a Tim who hasn’t forgiven Scott for abandoning him… a Tim whose body is no longer his own. The ghost of a serial murderer has attached itself to Tim, and it’s whispering dark and evil things. It wants Tim to kill, and it’s becoming harder for Tim to resist. To free the man who has always meant so much to him, Scott must unravel the mystery of the destiny he shares with Tim.
REVIEW:
The premise for this book is so unusual and it hooked me right away.
Scott’s life has been stressful to say the least. After dying as a child, he’s tormented by the dead. Unable to free himself from the torture and feeling like a burden to his loved ones, he flees his home town, leaving everyone and everything behind.
Tim has the biggest heart and Scott running away shattered it. When Scott comes back, he’s torn about how he feels and it leaves him even more vulnerable than before.
The author did a fantastic job of creating a world where the supernatural elements in this book can exist and what makes it even more amazing is that it’s just like ours. It makes it kind of scary actually.
Parker Williams isn’t the first to tackle this kind of paranormal activity, but they do it in a different way that kept me reading until to book was done, much to the chagrin of everyone who needed me to do other things besides read.
Both men are sympathetic without being pitiful and that’s what makes this story work. They are both strong apart, but together, they are unstoppable. Together with Scott’s mom and brother and Tim’s friends, these two men take what fate has given them and make it work. They have their issues and everything isn’t always perfect, but then again nothing is, so it makes this book and these characters all the easier to relate to.
As always when I’m writing a review, I’m having a hard time trying to tell you how awesome this story is without giving away too much of the story. I think anyone who likes supernatural stories will enjoy this, but so will the romance folks. I have no doubt that any reader will be cheering Scott and Tim on right from the beginning.
The idea that spirits can get stuck on earth with us when they have unfinished business is as fascinating as it is heartbreaking and this story does a wonderful job of exploring both of those aspects.
I am very much looking forward to book number 2 in this series.
