A warm welcome to authors Marie Sexton and Heidi Cullinan joining us today to celebrate the re release of their novel “Second Hand”.
Welcome Ladies 🙂
Hello everybody, and thanks for joining us as we celebrate the re-release of Second Hand! Today, we thought we’d share a quick little interview.
What’s the best gift you got for Christmas?
Marie: A Colorado Eagles jersey (except of course, they call them “sweaters”) from my dad.
Heidi: A Mo Dao Zu Shi art book my husband ordered from China (quote from him: “I had no idea what I was getting or what I was doing on the site, I just followed the link you sent and hoped for the best”), though a close second is the full second two disc set of Kyo Kara Maoh. Out of print and hard to find!
What’s the favorite gift you gave someone?
Marie: Hmm. I wish I had something really wonderful and heartwarming to list here, but I don’t. Hubby and I did finally break down and buy ourselves the new TV we’ve been lusting after for years. That was our present to each other, and we’ve definitely been enjoying it. (Especially for hockey games!)
Heidi: I got my daughter the tiny plush Shoto Todoroki she wanted desperately but couldn’t find, using a Japanese service to find it there for me and ship it. I also got her the Shoto Todoroki hoodie that looks like his costume complete with two-tone hair. She was overjoyed with both, and it was worth everything.
What are you doing for New Year’s Eve?
Marie: Nothing exciting at all. I’ll probably spend it knitting on the couch, watching TV with my husband.
Heidi: Editing, honestly.
What are your plans for 2019 (conferences, holidays)?
Marie: I think we’re taking a road trip to the Grand Canyon for spring break. We plan to spend the 4th of July at my brother-in-law’s place in Idaho (it’s either in Hope or Sandpoint, but I can’t remember which). We’re going to Rome for RARE in September. And then I think we’ll spend Christmas with my sisters in Minnesota. (Due to divorce and family complications, I’ve actually never spent Christmas with them.) My daughter is also hoping we can squeeze in a trip to Canada at some point, but not sure if that will happen or not.
Heidi: I’m going to Booklover’s Con this year, and then I’m going nowhere at all until my daughter graduates in 2020, at which time we hope to go on a trip to Japan and then Europe. But I have to write a lot of books to make that happen, so that’s what I’m doing.
If a fairy godmother showed up on your door right now and could grant you one thing, what would you ask for?
Marie: Straight teeth. (I had braces about ten years ago, but of course I never wore my retainer, and now I’m really regretting it.)
Okay. That makes me sound really selfish. (And vain.) On a more serious note, I’d wish for people to start being worthy of dogs, and that no dog ever be deliberately hurt, tortured, killed, or heartlessly discarded, ever again.
Heidi: A NEW OVEN. This sounds like a easy get, but it’s not because our oven is in a stupid spot and too small, so to get the oven I almost need a new kitchen. If she’d let me swing it, I’d ask godmother for a whole kitchen, but at the very least I need a functional oven. I don’t need baking to be an adventure anymore.
Second Hand, revised and re-edited, re-releases on January 8, 2019 from Dreamspinner Press. We hope you enjoy it!
Paul Hannon flunked out of vet school. His fiancée left him. He can barely afford his rent, and he hates his house. About the only things he has left are a pantry full of his ex’s kitchen gadgets and a lot of emotional baggage. He could really use a win—and that’s when he meets El.
Pawnbroker El Rozal is a cynic. His own family’s dysfunction has taught him that love and relationships lead to misery. Despite that belief, he keeps making up excuses to see Paul again. Paul, who doesn’t seem to realize that he’s talented and kind and worthy. Paul, who’s not over his ex-fiancée and is probably straight anyway. Paul, who’s so blind to El’s growing attraction, even asking him out on dates doesn’t seem to tip him off.
El may not do relationships, but something has to give. If he wants to keep Paul, he’ll have to convince him he’s worthy of love—and he’ll have to admit that attachment might not be so bad after all.

In particular, she loves the Colorado Eagles and enjoys going to the games with her husband. Her imaginary friends often tag along. Marie has one teenage daughter, one adorable dog, and one very stupid cat, all of whom seem bent on destroying what remains of her sanity. She loves them anyway.
Marie also writes dark dystopian erotic fantasy under the name A.M. Sexton. You can find her at http://mariesexton.net/, and on Facebook and Twitter.
