REVIEW:
Roam is the beginning of a series that is being re-released by NineStar Press after what looks like a self-published version in 2017. I liked the story and hope the other two books are coming soon, but I don’t know any details on that. The story in book one moved fast and ended way too soon for me. I would really like to know what happens next.
In the story so far, we’re introduced to Ethan Roam, a young man of twenty who has suffered severe night terrors and nightmares for years. They seem almost real, and in fact he finds himself bleeding after an event in the dream.
A lifetime friend of Ethan’s sends him to meet Dr. Grady Hunter, but things aren’t as they seem. It is more a job interview, and Ethan is hired. But Grady knows much more than he is telling Ethan, and it turns out the lifetime friend does as well. There is an entire supernatural world out there that Ethan never knew existed… and Ethan might just be a bigger part of it than it first appears.
The book moved along fast, and as I said above, ended much too soon for me. There was a little issue with the pace, as I felt things happened way to fast. Ethan went for this job interview as I said above, and was hired, and a day later he is moving into the boss’s haunted mansion? That was par for the course in this one. Things just fell into place, but I would have liked more detail, or buildup, or time passage, or something. Don’t get me wrong. I liked the book, but it felt rushed.
There was an event just before the end which left me hoping it will be rectified in the next installment, since it involved a character I kind of liked. That’s all I’m going to say, no more spoilers. The author’s writing style kept me entertained and turning the pages on this day off when I did as I intended and spent the day reading. Good job Ms. Schwartz.
I liked the book and would recommend it. I’ve discovered that the author also released a Prequel to this series, which is the story of the vampire Dacey Sinnett, who we met in this book. I’m off to start that one now and will let you know what I think!
