The final book in the Dragon Soul series was a little surprising; I’d been looking forward to reading Mike’s story every since I first encountered his grumpy, anti-social self in a previous story. The eldest of the brothers, Mike was actually the first to find his soulmate but circumstances he was unaware of led to Mike being rejected. Angry and hurt, Mike became the unwitting victim of a fae bent on causing pain and havok and, when all was said and done, it was easier to protect himself by cutting off all unnecessary ties and walling off the part of himself that cried out for its other half. In general,
I liked this one; it was nice finally finding out about the brother that kept himself apart from the rest. The start of the story had a lot of promise; a painful past and a bunch of mistakes left the way forward riddled with problems and I was enjoying the thought that it would take more work than the others for Mike to get his hea.
Things progressed pretty quickly past all that, however, which was a little disappointing.
There is quite a bit of sex (like the previous books, so no real surprise) but the bdsm aspect was on the lighter side of things with spanking really the heaviest element presented.
While all of that is fine, what I found myself disappointed with was lack of closure to one part of Mike’s past; I know that it was a big thing between him and Cor to move on from what had happened before, but I really wanted to know what happened to the jerk that damaged Mike so badly. It was briefly mentioned that Cor took care of him but nothing more was really said on the subject aside from Mike wondering about it once.
What I did find surprising was the end of the story; I wasnt expecting there to be more to the series than the brothers finding their soulmates and getting a nice hea (which was perfectly fine) so i found it nice to see that there was a greater purpose, so to speak) behind it all. All in all, I felt this was a nice ending to the series though I certainly wouldnt be opposed to seeing more of these men in the future. If you enjoyed the previous books, you should like this one, as well.
