When Felix lands a job taking care of a man recovering from severe injuries, he thinks his life may have just turned around. Anything has to be better than the place he’s leaving. There’s something about Lane that draws Felix to him and makes him question if this place could finally become a home for him. But when someone begins stalking Felix, he is left to question who Lane is and what actually happened to him.
Together, Felix and Lane will be forced to see just how far they will go to protect each other. Being chased by cops, kidnapping a man, and breaking into a drug operation seems to be his normal since arriving in Lane’s life. Felix may be out of his element, but one thing he is sure about is that he doesn’t want to leave, even if it costs him his life.
STORY REVIEW:
So this one started off a bit rough for me. I didn’t really understand why Felix would be allowed to have the caretakers job and the initial sex scene between these men didn’t really sit very well with me. But once I got past that, the story was entertaining.
I LOVED the snark between these men. It gave the story a bit of levity and helped me get past the misgivings I had over how this relationship started. The way the snark carried through this story even in the midst of life or death tension, was well done and brought cohesion to the tone. The banter between these men really stole the show and made this book enjoyable for me.
I easily connected with both of these men. From the very start, I felt sympathy for Lane. Yes he was a bastard at first, but I understood why and it was easy to forgive. I also loved Felix. He was such a mix of confidence and insecurity. For such a small man, he was larger than life and he really made this story for me.
The mystery/plot was good. It kept me from getting bored. For a while, I was afraid this was going to turn into a “day in the life” kind of story, which typically isn’t my thing. But the action and suspense, even when totally OTT, was interesting enough to keep me on my toes.
In the end, the author won me over. I am invested in these men and their future and I can’t wait for the next story to come out in audio.
NARRATION REVIEW:
I greatly enjoyed this narration. Joel Leslie really hit the emotions and snark on the head. His narration gave it that little extra that had me smirking my way through to the end. I could feel the eye rolls coming out of my speakers. I felt the sadness and the tension and the happiness as if I was there with the characters.
I will be waiting for the next book in audio rather than jumping ahead and reading it in ebook format because I believe this narration made my experience with this book better.
