Welcome Louisa & Simon 🙂
An Interview with Simon Wood from The Athlete and The Aristocrat
Louisa: Hey everyone! Thanks so much for following along on tour for this book. I know you’re going to love it as much as I do. Our special guest today is none other than the athlete from the title, Simon Wood! Thanks for joining us, Simon.
Simon: It’s always a pleasure to chat with you. Except for when you were making me miserable. Don’t think I’ve forgotten that.
Louisa: *big smile* But it all turned out well in the end, right? You’re happy. Lucien is happy. Awww, look at that sappy face, and I only had to mention his name.
Simon: *sighs and shakes head* Yeah, it all turned out in the end. And yeah, we’re happy.
Louisa: Good. That’s all I ever wanted for you. So, let’s tell these lovely readers a bit about you. You’re a retired championship soccer pl—
Simon: Football.
Louisa: Uh, sorry?
Simon: You said soccer. It’s football.
Louisa: Right, I knew that. You Brits call it football. Sorry—in Australia we say soccer. By the way, I love your accent.
Simon: Ditto. *winks*
Louisa: …
Louisa: *fans self*
Louisa: Uh… well. I never thought I was the type to go gaga over a sportsman, but I guess there’s a first for everything. Where were we? Right, retired championship football player, British, midthirties… heartthrob.
Simon: *winces* I don’t think of myself that way. Anyway, I’m off the market now. *beams*
Louisa: That’s right! And you met Lucien because of the charity the two of you run. Tell us about it.
Simon: It’s basically a charity to fund talented kids in Europe who can’t afford to pay club fees and equipment costs to play football. A lot of these kids will never get the chance to develop their talent properly because they can’t afford to, and we want to give them that opportunity.
Louisa: So you met Lucien when you were looking for funding?
Simon: *nods* Yeah. The Morel Corporation gives a lot of money to charity each year, and they’re very public about who they support. I needed that exposure just as much as the money, so I begged every favor I could to get an appointment with Edouard Morel—Lucien’s father. It turns out that he kind of fancies himself a matchmaker.
Louisa: *snorts* Yeah, I remember that. So you and Lucien met… and what happened then?
Simon: Right away? We rubbed each other wrong. His father sprang the whole thing on him last-minute, so he was unprepared, and I was so determined that things go right that I had no patience with that. But we sorted it out and became friends pretty quickly. *frowns* In fact, it was really quickly. I guess we just clicked.
Louisa: And when did it become more than friends?
Simon: *shifts uncomfortably* You know, there’s more about this than I’d actually like in the book. Can we not discuss it now as well?
Louisa: *laughs* Oh, you’re shy! Sorry, I should have remembered that you like your privacy. Okay, we’ll wrap this up—just one more question. If you had to pick one moment that you spent with Lucien in the book as your favorite, which would it be?
Simon: Just one? *looks thoughtful* There was one night when we were still setting up the charity. It had been a long day, and we were watching mindless TV and talking at the Paris apartment. Lucien brought me a beer, and it was my favorite even though I’d never told him. I think that’s when things really changed.
Louisa: *smiles* Thanks for being here, Si.
The Athlete and The Aristocrat:
Sometimes love takes balls.
Newly retired championship footballer Simon Wood is taking on his next challenge. His plan for a charity to provide funding for underprivileged children to pursue football as a career has passed its first hurdle: he has backers and an executive consultant. Now it’s time to get the ball rolling.
Lucien Morel, heir to the multibillion-euro Morel Corporation, is shocked—and thrilled—to learn his father has volunteered him as consultant to a fledgling football charity. Better yet, the brains behind it all is heartthrob Simon Wood, his teenage idol and crush.
Although Simon and Lucien get off on the wrong foot, it’s not long before they’re getting along like a house on fire—sparks included. But with the charity under public scrutiny, can their romance thrive?

Louisa Masters started reading romance much earlier than her mother thought she should. While other teenagers were sneaking out of the house, Louisa was sneaking romance novels in and working out how to read them without being discovered. She’s spent most of her life feeling sorry for people who don’t read, convinced that books are the solution to every problem. As an adult, she feeds her addiction in every spare second, only occasionally tearing herself away to do things like answer the phone and pay bills. She spent years trying to build a “sensible” career, working in bookstores, recruitment, resource management, administration, and as a travel agent, before finally conceding defeat and devoting herself to the world of romance novels.
Louisa has a long list of places first discovered in books that she wants to visit, and every so often she overcomes her loathing of jet lag and takes a trip that charges her imagination. She lives in Melbourne, Australia, where she whines about the weather for most of the year while secretly admitting she’ll probably never move.
