Brice ~
Life hasn’t always been easy for Brice. With his own mother abandoning him when he was a teenager, and his father having a dangerous job, life has been lonely. That is, until his father decides he needs a bodyguard he doesn’t want. So why does he find himself noticing how attractive the broody bodyguard is? And why does he want him to stay, after all?
Carter ~
Staying out of sight is Carter’s specialty. It’s something he learned while in the military and something he put into play while being on the run. Staying in one spot for too long isn’t something that sets well with the surly man. Initially, keeping an eye on the young man isn’t exactly what Carter wants to do, but now something isn’t letting him leave.
Personalities clash and tempers rise with these two men, making every day they’re together more challenging than the last. As the days pass, more secrets are revealed as their feelings for each other grow stronger. But when one man’s past comes back to haunt him, each man will stop at nothing to protect the other.
*Promise to Shield is Book 2 of the Personal Protectors series. It is intended for a mature audience with adult situations and language. Promise to Shield also mentions cutting and past abuse.*
REVIEW:
I am LOVING this series. And after the rough start in book one with Carter, I was ready to see him get settled. I knew there was a story behind this man. Hell, anyone in the military has a story but I knew there was more. AND from the awkwardness of some others in this story, I have a feeling I know where book three is heading. And knowing Brice’s and Elliot’s penchant for snark, yeah, this is going to be fun lol.
I felt bad for Carter in book one. Even though he never said much, other than grunting really, he was lonely and was a tad envious of Walker and Bennett. But with Walker’s case, he couldn’t leave them yet. But Larry asked him what was he going to do after and after finding out why he would want to know, Carter took him up on a job. Larry needed help in protecting his son. His job in the Feds made things hairy sometimes and he wanted Brice protected. And when they meet??? LMAO!!! Oh hell no!
Brice is furious. He’s not two. He doesn’t need a babysitter. And after trying to shake Carter off he knows he can’t do that anymore, because Carter is two steps ahead of him. But he does everything he can to get under Carter’s skin, and it works. Problem is Carter is getting under Brice’s as well. And these two are cracking. me. up. Oh my word. So much snark, sass, and downright assholishness. It is so funny.
But when push comes to shove, and Carter’s past comes to the forefront, Brice’s life is on the line, along with his best friend Elliot. And they don’t know if they will make it out alive. There are things left unsaid, but it may stay that way. It’s a shame it takes losing or almost losing someone to make you see the light. And Carter is going to do everything he can to make sure they make it through.
This book is so full of chemistry, action, sass, snark, and hot af sex. Full of angst, guilt, but hope and peace. I love the characters in this book. This series. There were a few grammatical things that need looking at but it didn’t change the dynamic of the book. I think if you guys haven’t gotten into this series yet, you should. Brice is just the best lol.
