He’s the police of other creatures and the enforcer of the goddess’s rules. If his duty leaves him lonely and longing for a mate and a larger pack, well, the goddess knows the secrets of his heart and she will grant them if it is her will.
Drew Metcalf is a man on the run. When he finds himself in a biker bar surrounded by leather wearing giants, he thinks he’s a goner. But there’s something different about the man slinging drinks. He makes Drew feel safe, something he hasn’t felt in a long time.
When Drew and Shaq’s worlds collide, a different kind of magic happens. Shaq doesn’t understand why he’s so drawn to the human whose life is shrouded in mystery and danger. What Shaq does know is that Drew needs his protection. Magical forces are at work, beginning a battle that will require all of Shaq’s skill as the goddess’s champion. With a terrifying threat looming, Shaq and Drew are in danger of losing more than their hearts.
REVIEW:
I recently reviewed the three available books in the Chosen One series from this author and was delighted to find this book out there on Amazon as well. I was intrigued with the character of Uncle Meshaq, the Hellhound that we met in Sweet Nothings and I was happy to see that he has his own story.
I’ve got to tell you, this is my favorite Macy Blake book so far. While I’m really enjoying the series she is writing for the Chosen One, this spin-off, side view, whatever you want to call it, is going to be a fun series as well.
Meshaq, or Shaq for short, is the Alpha of the Hellhounds. He is the chosen protector of a goddess, and he and his small pack handle the ‘problems’ in the supernatural world. Whether those problems be humans finding out that the supernatural are real, or the supernatural bad guys that show up like they did in Sweet Nothings and again in this book.
Shaq and the other Hellhounds, as well as a great number of other supernatural beings, don’t have mates. Something changed with magic a while back and birth rates have dropped, and true mates are scarce to almost none. Then one day a human man on the run enters the bar that Shaq owns, and things change rapidly. Why does the young human smell like cookies?
From Drew’s point of view, who is the huge man behind the bar and why does the man make him feel safe?
I loved how this book ties back to the other series, bringing in characters like Ollie (I think my favorite character in the other series) from those books and making this truly a side view in my mind. I think the stories will become more enmeshed as they go along. If you aren’t reading the Macy Blake books, and you like supernatural beings, you should definitely check them out. I highly recommend them and will be anxiously awaiting another in either series.
