Hello and welcome to my blog tour! I’m L.J. Hayward and I write the Death and the Devil series about Jack Reardon, a spy, and Ethan Blade, an assassin, two damaged but well-equipped men trying to survive their jobs and each other. In Why the Devil Stalks Death the guys are faced with a serial killer of exceptional skill and finding the Judge before they kill again might just be the thing that breaks Jack and Ethan apart . . .
One lucky commenter from the tour will receive their choice of the Death and the Devil series to date or a $15 Amazon gift voucher! End date to enter is 17th December.
The Leaning Tower of TBR . . .
Writing a book, or books, is a time consuming process and it’s hard for me to find a spare moment to read. Which is a massive shame because I love reading! It’s why I ended up writing and I miss it so much. I used to read over a hundred books a year and now, it’s barely a quarter of that. Sigh.
This doesn’t mean I have stopped accumulating books. I have so many to read it’s daunting when I do open up my ebook apps and see all those little “NEW” flags and I can’t pick one of the pretties out from all the rest.
A few of the titles on the towering TBR pile are . . .
Kill Game by Cordelia Kingsbridge
I feel like I’m the only person left alive who hasn’t read and fanpersoned madly over this series. My best bet now, I reckon, is to wait for the final book and then binge them ALL! Yes? Yes!
Enemies of the State by Tal Bauer
Another one I’m late to the party with but for reasons! Jack and Ethan reasons. I’ve wanted to read this one ever since I discovered it, however, with my own Jack and Ethan taking up so much space in my head, there isn’t room for more of them just yet. This one will be devoured as soon as I’m done with Death and Devil.
N.K. Jemisin had me hooked from her first book and I have seriously loved everything of hers since. This one has been sitting on my real bookshelf for far too long now, but I can’t fathom reading it until I can be assured of no interruptions.
Sno Ho was one of those OMG-that-title-I-must-have-it impulse buys that surprised me in an absolutely pleasant way. I loved the humour and the characters so much I immediately bought the second book. I’m so happy there’s a third, as well as so many other Ethan Day books to read.
A Treason of Truths by Ada Harper
Science fiction isn’t one of my favourite genres, but when I saw a description that said “F/F Die Hard on a floating city”, and combined with that cover, how could I resist??
Then there’s the not-yet-released books I can’t wait to read (aka add to the tower) . . .
Arden St. Ives #3 by Alexis Hall
Seriously, I’d read Mr. Hall’s shopping list, but I can’t wait to find out how our adorable Arden finally gets his man!
Reverb by Anna Zabo
I never knew I needed rock star stories so much until I read Counterpoint. The Twisted Wishes series instantly became one of my favourites and I can’t wait for Mish’s story.
Clean Break by Erin McLellan
I’ve adored everything I’ve read from Erin and this sequel to Controlled Burn is likely to be no different. My life definitely needs some NA angst mixed with sweetness and laughter, and spanking, oh my!
Dine With Me by Layla Reyne
Ms Reyne has been hinting at this foodie romance for a while now and I’m pretty sure I’ll be needing a bib to catch the drool while reading, and then tissues to mop up the tears by all accounts.
What are some of the books on your TBR towers?
Thank you to Love Bytes Reviews for having me here today!!
Cheers, L.J.
Blurb
Jack Reardon uncovers secrets for a living, and the Meta-State spy is pretty good at it. Or rather he thought so until he met Ethan Blade—assassin, warrior, enigma. The unlikely pair have decided to give living together a shot, but Jack’s not entirely certain what he’s gotten himself into—or exactly who he’s in it with. Jack’s worries are compounded when he’s assigned to a police strike force hunting a serial killer. With each new puzzle piece, Jack considers the true nature of a serial killer—and how similar it is to an assassin.
To one particular assassin who’s having trouble adjusting to retirement. Jack’s unsure how to help Ethan—or if he even can. When the killer strikes close to home, Jack must race against the clock to stop another murder, despite the price someone has put on his head. Could the matters be connected? Is a certain assassin at the centre of both? Surrounded by killers, the only one Jack wants near disappears, leaving Jack drowning in secrets. He’ll have to do what he does best—unravel the secrets, including Ethan’s—to stop the killer and save the life he and Ethan have only just begun to build.
**Content Warning** Child abuse and child sexual abuse in a character’s history and not depicted directly on the page.

L.J. Hayward has been telling stories for most of her life. Granted, a good deal of them have been of the tall variety, but who’s counting? Parents and teachers notwithstanding, of course. These days, the vast majority of her story telling has been in an honest attempt to create fun and exciting ways of entertaining others (and making money). As such, she is still a mad (always provoked!) scientist in a dungeon laboratory (it has no windows. Seriously, the zombie apocalypse could be going on outside and she’d have nary a clue) who, on the rare occasions she emerges into the light, does so under extreme protest and with the potential hazard of bursting into flames under the southeast Queensland sun.

I share a few titles of yours in my tbr tower, and then there’s Josh Lanyon’s The Magician Murders & In Other Words… Murder; Avery Cockburn’s Throwing Stones & Playing in the Dark, Bitter Legacy by Dal MacLean, aaand the list goes on and on. Just when I was about to start the above a few new titles (or old ones that came to mind) arrived. Never a boring day to be a reader, lol.
I love Lanyon’s books and the Art Of Murder books are quintessential Lanyon. I need to catch up on the Glasgow Lads too.
Some of your books are in my TBR pile as well… It has grown out of proportion, lately. I am now Reading one of those I was desperate for, In Other Words… Murder by Josh Lanyon. Next in my TBR pile is Lock Nut by JL Merrow.

My TBR list is waaaaaay too long. I never manage to make it smaller, it only grows longer xD
I just read Payback by John Inman and realized that I like his style quite a bit. So, I’ll read a few more of his books as soon as I’ve time. Also rather high on my list are Josh Lanyon, Victoria Sue and S.A. Stovall. But it really depends on my mood, what I’ll read next.
I’m a mood reader too. Sometimes I’m in the mood for anything. Other times I’m so picky I can’t decide at all. 😏
Some of the books from my TBR (‘cos there are 84) are:
Out in the Open (Browerton University, #1) – AJ Truman
Pressure Head – JL Merrow
Fierce & Fabulous – Elizabeth Varlet
A Hunted Man – Jaime Reese
Poison Tongue – Nash Summers…
Whatever pops first in my kindle is the one that gets read.
Nash Summers is amazing! Makes me so jealous. 😁😁

I’m looking forward to Soulbound 2 by Hailey Turner, Mastering His Flames by SJ Himes and the next book in Beautiful Monsters by Jex Lane
My TBR is crushing me, but that doesn’t stop me from getting more books! I’ve been waiting for Cordelia’s Seven of Spades series to be fully out before reading it.
My TBR list is huge. Right now I am in holiday mode and am looking forward to reading all the books in The Christmas Angel series.
