Joshua Trant is doing his best to support his son Micah and Micah’s partner Greg as they approach the trial of Greg’s attackers. This was never going to be easy, especially as Greg wants them prosecuted for a hate crime, but County Attorney Alexander Rycliffe assures them he’ll do his utmost to make sure the perpetrators are held accountable for their actions. Joshua hopes that whatever the outcome, Greg will be happy. What he’s finding more difficult to deal with, is the way he’s feeling about Alex. Joshua has loved two people in his life – Hayden and Rachel – and lost them both. The chance of him being lucky a third time is so slim, the thought doesn’t even cross his mind, until Love – and his kids – give him a push in the right direction…
Alex knows what it is to have loved and lost, and he thinks he’s done with men. Then Joshua Trant walks into his life. Alex soon learns there’s more to Joshua than just a handsome face, and the men finally have what both of them need – a friend. But as the months go by, it becomes obvious to everyone concerned that their friendship has the potential to develop into something deeper – if they let it.
One man who thinks he’s had his chance at love.
One man who has to let go of a past betrayal and learn to trust again.
And both are about to be shown Christmas is indeed a time of miracles. All you have to do is believe…
REVIEW:
I don’t want to give the book away, but I have to acknowledge pieces of this book first. The dedication at the beginning and the way K.C. intertwined Matthew Shepherd in this book, made this more than 5 stars for me. The fact that it took 20 years for him to be permanently put to rest, the length of time it’s taken this country to get there, and the fact the LGBT community is still having to fight so hard. Thank you for that. The rest of this book could have been crap, and believe me, it’s so NOT, but that alone pushed it higher for me. That being said, the rest of the book was amazing. I loved this family to begin with in the first book, but to see the growth, the bonds and seeing how much Greg is now a part of this family……perfect.
I love the new addition as well. Alex has his own past. And it’s a hard one to get over. You’d think after 5 years he’d be getting better about the whole thing, but it’s still there. And seeing his ex moving on in ways he wanted when they were together…..uh uh. Not good at all. But meeting Joshua has brought back some life into his life and he’s second guessing it. Can he move on? Can he give his heart again? Should he? I honestly have to say I don’t know if I could do it. But then that’s not me lol 😉 . He’s been the perfect person to have on Greg’s side too. He smart and driven. Determined to make a difference.
But With all that’s going on in his head and heart about Joshua, he has the best of friends kicking him in the ass. Oh my gah, I LOVE Manda. Snarky, smart ass, in your face, no nonsense woman and I adore her. She pulls no punches whatsoever and I laughed so hard I cried at times from her. Very much like Naomi.
Joshua has grown as well. With finally letting his wife be laid to rest in his heart, and closure to a point over his first love Hayden, he can move on. And Alex is right up his alley. And being friends before anything just makes it better. They get to know each other better, the intimacy is better. Even if they have to take things slow, it just better knowing someone is there. Joshua has also really bonded with his family. Some of the convos between him and Micah. LMAO oh my gah. It’s so funny.
What i enjoyed seeing especially though, was how much Greg has come into his own. He is outgoing, more comfortable in his own skin, and his love for Micah is beautiful. He’s more sure of himself and where he wants to go in life and even thought the trial may scare him, he keeps going. He’s held his head and endured.
Being with this family again is just the best. I just enjoyed every minute. Whether laughing, crying, or cringing from the awkward moments (and they are funny as well). These guys have just built a place in my heart. They have been broken, beaten, but endured stronger and closer than ever before. They’ve grown in love, laughter and tears. And I’ve never been more happy to be a part of this journey.
