REVIEW:
A fast, quick, amusing story.
Alexandre Bonfils is the son and heir to his family’s fortune. They have been in the wine business for multiple generations and a leader in the English Wine industry. But Alex can’t be bothered with all that boring stuff. Life is just too much fun to be stuck behind a desk like his Papa and brother. That all comes crashing down when he is summoned to his father’s office and basically fired from the company. Now what is he going to do. Wine has always been in his life and it’s something that he understands quite well. It’s the working that is so foreign to him. When his father’s PA lets on, by accident, that they are experiencing some trouble down at the main warehouse in Bristol. Alex comes up with a plan to get back in his father’s good graces. He is going to go undercover, like on that television show, and get to the bottom of this. Little did he know that he would be blindsided by the warehouse’s manager in a very tantalizing way.
Okay, so I know these are suppose to be sweet and fun little stories however, how the heck did no one in that entire warehouse catch on that Alex, even his first name is the same, was the son and heir to the fortune that they all worked for? What, a little dye job and, for a short moment, a pair of glasses, were suppose to disguise him. I just didn’t fall for that. Some of these workers were from generations of company workers and no one catches on. And being the playboy he is, he was always on the front page of the gossip rags. Not even with his advanced language and aristocratic behavior made them question him? Yes Percy did, but he never even brought up his thoughts to Tate. No wonder they couldn’t figure out who was doing the sabotaging!
What worked for me was that neither of these men jumped straight into bed. As a matter of fact, I really liked that they took their time and was respectful of the others feelings not to rush. I liked that, even though they seemed to be the most mismatched pairing, they were actually exactly what they other one needed to round them out. Alex needed the cautious and careful Tate while Tate needed the more adventurous Alex to bring him out of his self-imposed prison of taking care of and leading his family. I also loved that Tate opened the spoiled and indulged Alex to the real world, the struggles of the people working for the company, of their needs.
I don’t know how I really feel about this book. If you take it as a fun little spoof without looking closely to how implausible it would be then this is a fun read. Unfortunately I kept getting side tracked on why these people didn’t have the smarts to open their eyes to what was right in from of them. If you are referring to the new guy as “Prince Harry” then you must have some kind of idea that something is amiss to him suddenly being an intern there.
