BLURB:
Two clashing colleagues stuck together for Christmas—will opposites eventually attract?
Patrick has been single since he broke up with his cheating ex almost a year ago. With Christmas looming, he’s resigned to spending it alone with only memories of happier times for company. When a business trip with a co-worker leaves them stranded in the Lake District due to heavy snow, it seems Patrick will have company for Christmas after all. It’s a shame his companion is Kyle, who’s undeniably attractive, but annoying as hell.
Aware of Patrick’s reluctant admiration, Kyle basks in the attention even though Patrick isn’t the type of man he normally goes for. Averse to relationships after being hurt in the past, Kyle enjoys the occasional hook up, but has given up on seeking anything more meaningful.
Stuck together, their antagonism escalates along with a heavy dose of sexual tension until it finally ignites. What starts as a Christmas fling soon feels like something special; but will their tentative connection melt away as the snow thaws? If they’re going to take a chance on finding happiness together, they’ll have to put their differences aside and learn to trust one another.
REVIEW:
Patrick and Kyle are seven years apart in age, and worlds apart with their habits. Patrick has a messy form of filing system; Kyle is as neat as a button. Patrick isn’t a fan of modern Apps, whereas Kyle is attached to his phone. Patrick prefers his books, while Kyle is a party boy and loves Grindr. Patrick is frequently frustrated by Kyle, whereas, winding up Patrick is Kyles favourite sport. At work Patrick is assigned as Kyle’s mentor and their working relationship isn’t good. Noticing their constant barbs to each other, their boss reprimands them and, in the name of team bonding, tells them to spend more time together.
After a work-related meeting in Carlyle, the dynamic duo gets caught in snow and are unlucky enough to get a double whammy with car failure, too. They must make do in local lodgings. Kyle isn’t blind to the fact that while Patrick might not like him, the man spares him lustful gazes. Kyle believes the prospect of seeing the straight-laced man unravel would be a fun challenge.
Told in the third person, I found this story to be a splendid bit of Christmas fun to get the festive season off to a good start. Initially, the boys close quarters living conditions grates on them even more than their working one. However, a bit of give-and-take on both sides soon has them noticing the better aspects – that and having to make the best of a no-win situation where mother-nature always has trumps. Add in a few locals, a grumpy old lady, a big Alsatian and a Christmas tale is born. The well-written imagery of the local area also added a delightful wintery feel.
Both men have hang-ups relating to their pasts. This emotional aspect added a touch seriousness to the story and it isn’t long before secrets emerge. Loneliness and a love of being spanked adds physical titillation. Soon Kyle and Patrick are using the smallest of excuses to wrangle a spanking scenario. Once this barrier is breached, the pages are filled with a combination of self-analyzing and lots of sex. After all, what else are two sexually active chaps, with no internet connection supposed to do? To find out if their tryst survives more than the snowfall, you’ll have to read the book yourselves.
A fun Christmas yarn with a little bit of kink.
