BLURB:
At twenty-four, Teddy should be used to feeling abandoned and unwanted. After all, he’s been dealing with it most of his life. But a recent breakup takes him completely by surprise and now he’s on his own again. Nursing new and old hurts, he leans on his makeshift family and finds solace in a growing and unexpected friendship with an older man.
Forty-two-year-old Barrett has successfully ignored his biggest need for years. His last boy left him questioning everything he knew, and he is determined to lead a vanilla life, no matter how much his friends try to convince him to be true to himself. When he learns his favorite barista needs a new place to stay, he offers a solution that leads to spending more time with the younger man.
A change in circumstances brings both men together and their buried feelings to light. Teddy knows he’s attracted to Barrett but isn’t sure if he’s ready to risk his heart again, and Barrett is losing the struggle against his dominant nature. Will learning Barrett’s sexy secret be too much for Teddy, or is it just the thing he never knew he needed?
REVIEW:
These are new- to-me- authors and I must say that I was super impressed with what they’ve created! I haven’t read too many of the May/December sub-genre but I’ve truly enjoyed the few that I have read. This one has a bit of a twist. This combines a ménage (a favorite of mine) storyline with a May/December one.
Teddy’s heart is ripped apart by his two boyfriends and his best friends are there to help him heal and move on from it. It just so happens that Barrett is going through the same thing although he’s a little further along in his journey with his heartbreak. Teddy stirs feelings and desires that Barrett had—or at least thought that he had—buried.
This book was such a pleasure to read. The blurb snatched my attention and I wasn’t disappointed with the contents within. These characters are absolutely delightful. The MCs as well as the peripheral characters are very well written. Ah, while on that train of thought, I loved how Teddy and Barrett’s best friends’ interaction fleshed out and I’m really looking forward to seeing how that plays out.
I also liked the fact that this story is slow burn. There’s a build towards something really special between these two men and the slow build allows the characters time to heal, get their heads and hearts wrapped around the idea of letting go of past hurts and getting to know each other. The heat index isn’t very high but that’s quite alright as the storyline and plot more than makes up for it.
This book has it all: humor, romance and healing. The storyline, characters and the dialog is fantastic. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and look forward to the second installment.
