I was so proud of myself for being all organized and getting my blog posts written and in on time for The Kinsey Scale release. Um, but later I noticed I screwed up and sent essentially the same content to two different blogs, LoveBytes being one. Sorry, LoveBytes! You were supposed to get the following character interview and so I’m using my monthly author post to rectify the oversight.
KINSEY SCALE CHARACTER INTERVIEW
Today, we’ll be interviewing my two main characters, Eric Brown and Will Butler. Eric is a 21 year old gay guy who is outgoing and prone to break into song. He’s a theater major, after all. Will is also 21 and his sexuality is a bit mysterious, although Eric is convinced he’s straight when he first meets him. Will is a singer-songwriter but he’s majoring in economics, which Eric considers a travesty given Will’s talent. But let’s have these guys speak for themselves.
What’s your best childhood memory?
ERIC: The first Halloween I can remember. I was probably around 4 or 5. I got to pick out my costume. Major thrill! It was so exciting to me to play dress up that I’ve been doing it ever since.
WILL: Yep. That’s you, all right. I can totally get why you became an actor. What did you go as?
ERIC: A vampire, of course.
WILL: Although this year you were more like a sexy devil.
ERIC: Sexy? Why, thank you! Okay, what’s your favorite childhood memory?
WILL: I don’t have one specific memory, but what I loved most as a kid was going camping and being out in nature.
ERIC: Yeah, I remember you talking about being in Boy Scouts.
WILL: Exactly, and Cub Scouts before that. I thought it was so cool to have a campfire and sleep outside, and learn about the stars and stuff.
ERIC: Did you tell scary stories?
WILL: Sometimes. We liked to freak ourselves out. Like this one time we were staying on someone’s farm and we were sleeping in the barn. Someone told a story about this psycho slowly and silently creeping up on us—
ERIC: Stop! I’m getting scared already.
WILL: Wuss.
ERIC: You know it. If we ever go camping, don’t tell me any ghost stories, mmkay?
WILL: Sure.
ERIC: But will you bring your guitar and play for me?
WILL: Only if you sing.
ERIC: Deal.

We’ll leave these guys to their plans. They’re always lying in their dorm beds, talking to each other about life, and getting along great. I’m happy they finally get over their obstacles and have their HEA.

THANKSGIVING GRATITUDE AND REMEMBERING ETHAN DAY
This week is Thanksgiving in the United States. I am grateful for many things, but first, a remembrance: Serious health issues in my family caused me to drop out of GRL this year. I’m so sorry that I missed everyone but especially Ethan Day. He died suddenly and totally unexpectedly this month. What a loss to the m/m writing community and to the world. He was fun, playful, generous and also an amazing organizer, publisher, and author. RIP Ethan, and thank you for shining your light so brightly into this world.
Life is short. I’m so grateful for the people in my birth family and my chosen family, who love me and support me. I’m grateful for my publisher Dreamspinner and all the people there who do such great work. I’m grateful for my fellow authors who buoy me up and teach me so much. And I’m beyond grateful for you readers who love our genre.
Talk to you next month,
