BLURB:
A year ago, Kelly Cannon couldn’t imagine he’d end up with his formerly straight best friend. It’s hard to believe he can finally kiss Blue any time he wants… as long as they’re in private. And there’s the rub. Despite Kelly’s promise to wait until Blue is ready to come out, he’s tired of sneaking around. The cracks in their relationship are starting to show, and there might not be enough spackle in the world to fix them.
Britton “Blue” Montgomery may not be the physics brainiac his boyfriend is, but he’s not stupid. He knows Kelly isn’t completely happy. But he’s not ready to be the poster boy for bisexuals and gays in the NFL. He just wants to keep his head down, play the game he loves, and go home to the man he adores. Is that too much to ask?
With the truth slowly coming to the surface, Blue must make a choice. If it means losing Kelly, there’s no decision to make…. He has to find enough courage to face the music and hope they’ll survive the fallout.
Man. Happily-ever-afters may not be just for Disney princesses, but they sure are a lot of work.
Kelly and Blue are back! This installment really pulled me in and reminded me of all of the things I loved about meeting them in the previous book. They are BFFs who are now in a relationship, and despite the wishy washy-ness Blue showed in book 1, he is totally committed to Kelly now. I love these two together. It is so easy to see why they make such a great match. It is also easy to see how amazing they are together when it is just them and not difficult to understand why they don’t want that to change by letting the world in. Even though Kelly is and has been out, Blue is still terrified that he isn’t ready to deal with the changes that will bring about.
I will say that while I didn’t like the aspect of Blue not growing a set about a relationship with Kelly, I was happy to see that he didn’t make a complete about face this time around. To me, that would have been more of a let down than his actions in this book. It does take him a while (most of the book) to step up to the plate and put his money where his mouth is about Kelly deserving more and not wanting to lose what was most important to him. Or for him to realize that Kelly was the one person (out of his entire measly family) to stand by him through thick and thin and didn’t expect Blue to do things for them. Blue does finally take the bull by the horns by way of taking charge of his own life, living it for him and not others (namely his father) and coming to terms with only concerning himself with his and Kelly’s happiness.
I absolutely adore Kelly. He is super sweet, understanding, snarky and sexy and just an all-around great guy. I love his playfulness and witty comebacks, and I’d totally love to hang out with him in the skybox! I love that his love for Blue just shines through without him even having to try. It broke my heart each time things were said that didn’t come out quite right. He put up with a lot, but didn’t hesitate to stand up for himself or Blue when it was called for.
I only had a slight issue with the football/NFL details not quite adding up, but that didn’t take away from how much I ended up loving these characters and their story.
Needless to say, I loved this book quite a bit more than the previous one, although that was good too and a necessary read to really understand where these guys are coming from and how they got to this point. I don’t think I’d ever really get tired of spending quality “Klue” time. They are super sexy together with steamy chemistry with a fabulous combination of dialog, banter and playfulness, and I really hope this isn’t the last we will see of them. I wasn’t quite ready to let these guys go, so I went back and listened to the audio version of book 1, which I highly recommend. The narrators make these guys come alive even more. 🙂
