They found exactly what they weren’t looking for.
Logan:
I had almost everything I’d ever wanted—career, friends, my own easy life in Sawyer’s Ferry, Alaska. I’d given up on filling in the missing pieces long ago. Now, I was more than satisfied with the perfectly practiced, perfectly predictable routine I’d created for myself. At least until Jackson Daley walked into my clinic.
Jackson:
Working the rigs is temporary. Everything in my life is. Jobs, cities, and the guys I take home—nothing sticks, and that’s exactly the way I like it. After four years in Alaska, I’m itching to pick up and leave. I’m ready to move on and start over someplace new, until a one-night stand I can’t seem to shake has me breaking all my own rules.
Now as I get closer to walking away, my reasons for leaving seem blurrier than ever, and for the first time in my life, there could be something worth staying for.
REVIEW:
I loved this book. I am a sucker for a good “relationship denial” story and this one hit all my favorite high points.
I loved both Logan and Jackson and I loved they way they interacted with one another. From the very start I could tell these men were a good fit for each other. Neither man was perfect and both had deep emotional scars. Jackson’s upbringing left a lot to be desired and as such, he built walls. And those walls were clear for all to see and I connected with Jackson instantly in the hopes that Logan could break down those walls.
It was so interesting to see these two very different men form such a lasting connection. Logan was everything Jackson had forced himself not to be. Logan was the long term, small town doctor with a heart of gold. While Jackson was the unsettled wanderer always looking for the next opportunity. But when they got together, each man opened the eyes of the other and it caused some strain. But it also lead to growth and longing and love and a bunch of other really fun stuff to watch. I am always amused when the “I’m not built for a relationship” men start to rationalize away the fact that they are in an actual relationship. I find it utterly entertaining and these two men played that part perfectly.
My very favorite aspect of this story was the way the author wrote the emotions onto the page. From word one I FELT everything along with these men, and I felt everything for these men. The lust was off the charts and I FELT it turning into a deeper connection. And while it was utterly predictable, I FELT the hurt when things went south. I never questioned the attraction and I never questioned when that attraction turned to love because the author did not just tell me what to feel. She wrote those emotions into the plot, into the characters, and into the sex.
I also have to give the author credit on how well this book brought for that “series” feel. Book one introduced us to some of the players in the Sawyer’s Ferry series, but this book took it to the next level. We still got great pictures of the potential MCs of future books, but we also started to get a sense of the town itself and of the community that will be supporting these stories. Sawyer’s Ferry itself came to life and the townsfolk started showing great personality and potential. I am hooked and honestly, at this point, I don’t care about the next paring as much as I care about learning more about the town and seeing how the author bring it and its inhabitants to life. I can see the potential for many humorous and wonderfully loving shenanigans.
I am sure this review is a rambling mess, but there was so much I wanted to say so I had to pick the main highlights since I didn’t want to write a novel of my own. But I highly recommend this series. It is not high on angst, but it is emotional and sexy and highly satisfying. I am eagerly awaiting the next installment.
