Does a bear shift in the woods?
Well, partially. That was what got grizzly shifter Ted Farnsworth into trouble. He wasn’t trying to break the Secrecy Pact. He just wants people to see the real him. So he signs up with the mate-matching service Supernatural Selection — which guarantees marriage to a perfect partner. Not only will Ted never be lonely again, but once his new beaver shifter husband arrives, they’ll build Ted’s dream wilderness retreat together. Win-win.
Quentin Bertrand-Harrington, scion of an incubus dynasty, has abstained from sex since nearly killing his last lover. When his family declares it’s time for him to marry, Quentin decides the only way not to murder his partner is to pick someone who’s already dead. Supernatural Selection finds him the ideal vampire, and Quentin signs the marriage agreement sight unseen.
But a mix-up at Supernatural Selection contracts Quentin with Ted. What’s Ted supposed to do with an art historian who knows more about salad forks than screwdrivers? And how can Quentin resist Ted’s mouthwatering life force? Yet as they work together to untangle their inconvenient union, they begin to wonder if their unexpected match might be perfect after all.
REVIEW:
I freaking loved this book. It was just cute to me. I loved the characters so much. Big ole teddy bear and a snarky Incubus. But there is so much more to these guys. They are beautiful beings. I loved the writing. It was just so good.
Ted about broke my heart in this book. He’s such a sweetheart. He really is a huge teddy bear. But unlike most bear shifter, Ted likes people. He likes being around people and he wants people to see him. To want to be around him. He wants a companion and someone who will hopefully, eventually love him. He’s been in so much trouble that he has to see a psychiatrist on a regular basis. He’s not trying to hurt anyone or cause anyone to find out who he is or anything about shifters. He’s just lonely. He thinks getting a husband through the Supernatural Selection site will help maybe. But maybe not since they gave him the wrong husband.
Quentin. Gah. I don’t know which if these two about killed me more. Quentin wants to be loved too, but being an Incubus and almost killing someone has turned him off of everything. And he’s slowing killing himself. Not intentionally, but suppressing his natural abilities is killing him. The drugs are ravaging his body and after being left alone in the cold with no way for warmth, he almost doesn’t make it. It breaks me. He’s so unlike his other ‘relatives’. He can’t just use people and kill them off to feed and survive. And even with being married to Ted being wrong, he’s still being warned off not to hurt him or to get away from him. Doesn’t anyone know already he doesn’t want to be around people and hurt them? He ends up coming off snarky and rude. And a bit uppity, but he’s trying so hard to protect everyone. And that to me shows what kind of being he really is. He cares. He’s concerned. And these two, despite thinking they are so opposite, are actually quite a lot alike. And perfectly suited.
I love them both. They bring such life to everything. And to each other. This is such a fun read. Yeah, it has a few sad moments but it’s worth it in the end.
