Vampires live.
And they hunger…
Otto Jones, a cop assigned to the seemingly random murder of a vampire, would rather hide out in the nearest bar than waste his time on a dead vamp. He hates the bloodthirsty demons. But when the king of the vampires commands him to work with one of the lesser princes and find the killer, he has no choice.
Prince Jessamine Senera is ready to sacrifice his happiness in a loveless marriage for his family’s benefit… but not yet. He dreams of adventure, excitement, and true love. He lives on romance novels and detective stories and wishes he could drink synthetic blood like every other vampire. But he can’t. He needs human blood to survive and is hated by vampires and humans alike.
As Otto and Jessa draw closer to an entity that doesn’t want to be discovered, Otto finds the heart he thought long dead opening to the romance-loving Jessa. No good can possibly come from falling in love with a vampire, but when a shadowy assailant attacks Jessa, Otto will descend into the darkest pit of the earth to rescue him.
If you like vampires, mythical and urban settings, intense suspense, and happy ever after, then you’ll love this first book in the dark and mysterious Ellowyn Found trilogy!
A Vampire’s Heart is a stand-alone paranormal dystopian noir romance with a satisfying conclusion to the love story and a central mystery that weaves the trilogy together.
REVIEW:
Otto Jones is a sad and angry man. He’s let a tragedy from his past consume his whole life. But there’s still something in his soul that is yearning for something more.
Jessamine Senera just wants to help his family the only way he knows how and if that means giving up his dreams, so be it.
These two men are worlds apart yet they still find they have things in common.
I loved the premise of this story and the author has crafted interesting, sympathetic characters who were the reason I finished this story, even though I found that it dragged at times.
The world that Otto and Jessa live in is well plotted out and easy to picture in my head. A place where two different worlds collided, leaving scars and fear in its wake. Watching how Otto resentfully walks through it with no regard for himself is heartbreaking and when he finally meets Jessa I found myself relieved because Otto stole my heart. He tries so hard to just live with the misery he’s mired in and I wanted him to find some happiness and peace.
Jessa is sweet and eager to please. He has a curious heart and truly wants to be better and do good things. His youthful enthusiasm is the perfect foil for Otto’s darkness and balances this story well.
Jessa’s family is strange but their love for their brother is obvious. I feel like they will be the focus of the other two parts of this trilogy and I will be checking them out for sure.
I have to be honest and say that the ending left me a little confused. The wild swinging from one direction to the next wasn’t very well bridged but it does eventually get it’s meaning across. I think the love story was better handled than the plot, although I do realize it was setting things up for the sequels to come. I sometimes feel like an author rushes an ending to leave room for the next book and this might be one of them.
But as a story set in a fantasy world, this one is mostly well done. And if you like vampires, this story is definitely your thing. I appreciated the different take on the legends we all know so well and I hope you will too.
