Walker ~
Living a life of privilege isn’t always what it seems to be. While Walker has never wanted for anything material-wise, the two things he doesn’t have are his parents’ love and support. Walker tries his hardest to be the perfect son by allowing his father, the Governor, to dictate his life for him. All that changes when an awful day leads to a brutal night, causing Walker to fear for his safety and hire the only person he knows can protect him.
Beckett ~
Peace and an easy way of living, that’s all Beckett wants after serving twelve years in the army. Working for his Uncle Rusty’s bar as a doorman and occasional bouncer, the last thing the tattooed man with the take-no-crap attitude needs is to have to save the obnoxious kid who gives him attitude at the door. After ensuring that he’ll survive, and having a not so pleasant run-in with the guy’s parents, he leaves the hospital never expecting to see him again.
Walker and Beckett come from two different worlds. Where Beckett fought for his country and now enjoys the simple life, Walker works as his father’s campaign manager and lives a life of luxury. But when Walker’s safety is threatened, and he offers Beckett a job as his body guard, their lives became entwined and the two men begin to find that maybe they aren’t so different after all. Soon bickering and fighting turns to friendship and something…more. The only problem is, Walker’s straight… isn’t he? And can Beckett figure out who is behind the attacks in time to save Walker?
*Vow of Protection is book one in the Personal Protector series. This book contains situations for adults only and also talks about past drug use and rape.*
REVIEW:
Holy shit did this book turn twisted and messed up! It was so GOOD! I love these flawed characters. It makes everything so seemingly real. They are snarky, bitchy, pissy, and everything in between. But when push comes to shove, they fight, they’re loyal, they love and comfort in their own way and give hope when there is none. This was amazingly written. I wanted to shake them half the time and beat the crap out of a few others. You will see lol.
Out of everyone is this book, I felt for Walker. Beckett totally misjudged him at first. Totally. I mean granted, their first meeting was outside of a bar, but still. Walker has just been through absolute hell in his life. His past is something that makes him sick to this day. Yes, some of it was from his own decision-making, but some wasn’t.
And to have a douchebag, asshole, shitheaded, f*ucker for a father…..oh man, I wanted to crawl in that book so bad!! The man thinks because he’s governor he can treat everyone like shit beneath his feet. And worse to his own son. He doesn’t care the few times Walker has almost lost his life. He uses it for the polls. To be the sympathetic father. *GAG* *mumbles dickhead* I loathe that man and what he’s done. And believe me, it gets worse.
So for Walker…I just wanted to love him. Now someone is trying to kill him after almost dying from a beat down. He hires Beckett to be his bodyguard and those two are like oil and water. They go head to head all the dang time lol. Sometimes it’s quite funny. But when things start getting worse, as big of an ass as Beckett can be, he was there for Walker. Comforting him and holding him. And maybe a few other things *ahem*. And that’s a minefield too lol. Mostly because they haven’t learned each other. But the more that comes at them, the more it affects them and they become closer. And THAT is where it gets beautiful. In their way.
I loved this book. And I saw a snippet of who’s coming next and I really want that book in my hands right now. So so good. There’s suspense, danger, violence, betrayals and all kinds of goodies to keep you glued to each page.
