Mason Foxworth has spent the last several months recovering from injuries he received doing personal security while on tour during the horrific fire in Germany. He’d been hitting his stride professionally when he fell through the floor that night, and now his life had been reduced to weekly appointments with physical therapists and various doctors while everyone else around him seemed to have moved on.
He felt useless and alone, and the worst part of it, the physical scarring left behind on his legs from the burns had ruined his self-esteem. Who would want him now, when he was so damaged inside and out and he had nothing much to contribute? He didn’t have a lot of friends and his co-workers felt it was safer to keep Mason at a desk in the office doing paperwork, rather than out in the field doing security. Mason wanted to get that status changed before he lost the last threads of his sanity, and the main obstacle in his way was a bum leg that was taking far too long to heal.
Tessler is an enigma in the sci-fi literary world. A young, reclusive author, known for the mystery swirling around him, he realizes he’s lost any real joy in his life when he suddenly starts to feel the strange emotion pumping through his veins. Barely beyond the age of twenty-five and he’s already made more money than most see in a lifetime, but Tessler feels empty within himself and also inside his two-story, meticulously renovated warehouse in the burbs of Los Angeles. What made him this way must remain the mystery it is, or he feels he’ll lose the empire he’s created. But meeting a man he feels could bring all his pieces together is challenging his reasons for anonymity and Tessler suddenly finds himself wanting more from life and from himself.
Mason wants his life back and Tessler is just looking to have a real life. Can two vastly different men find a way to smooth out their hard edges and blend their lives to offer the one ingredient neither has: love? Personal growth comes in many different shapes and Mason and Tessler have a mountain of it to climb in order to find their HEA.
REVIEW:
I have no idea how I missed the release of this book and book number 4 but I am so excited to have the opportunity to review it.
Mason Foxworth has been trying to recover from all his multiple injuries from the devastating fire in Berlin at the Black Ice and Ivory Tower Concert. He is lucky to even have his leg, the surgeons had wanted to amputate it because of the serious injuries from the burns and breaks. But Mason is a fighter and he is fighting hard to get his life back. When he ducks in for his cup of coffee, after physical therapy, he accidentally trips when his cane becomes entangled and falls in front of everyone in the coffee shop. A man with the most incredible brown eyes attempts to help him up which embarrassed him even more. When the two men keep running into each other sparks begin to fly but Mason isn’t sure he can ever let someone see his hideous scars and Tessler, a famous author, has a huge secret he is keeping.
I was excited to hear it was Mason’s story. He was so seriously hurt in the Berlin fire and I wasn’t sure if he was going to be able to recover from his injuries. He is a really good guy and needed to have some joy enter into his life. The way that Tessler almost worshiped his body and gave Mason the ability to comfortably be able to be with him was so sweet. I also loved how Mason became protective of Tess. This was his man nobody was going to mess with him.
There always has to be a sleazy, bad guy and Barry definitely filled that bill. I realize that Tessler thought that he wanted all that went down that inspired “The Black Key Trilogy” but what I think is he was a disgusting excuse for a man that stole Tessler’s youth. He used him and took total advantage of him physically, professionally and monetarily. What a total scumbag!
One thing that I did miss was that we never got a glimpse of any of the guys from the bands. I could have totally seen them checking in on Mason. That group and the guys that guard them are so incredibly tight that it seemed strange that not one of them dropped in to check up on him.
Great new book that was a sweet and touching love story of two guys that never realized what they were missing until they met each other. This was a wonderful next book in the series and I look forward to more of the men that guard my Rock Gods.
