BLURB:
Lincoln Merriweather was born an entitled brat with a silver spoon lodged so deep, it might never have come out. At the BDSM club or in business, Lincoln was a storm, blowing in and disrupting the lives of everyone he touched, until the day he met a man who peeled away the tarnished layers to expose a decent person.
Lincoln found—then lost—love.
Since then, he’s tried to atone for his past, including walking away from his family’s wealth. He opened a diner, hiring people to work for him that he would have spit on before his epiphany. He’s found peace, which he’s about to lose to a hazel-eyed man.
Noel Simmons wound up on the street when his parents discovered he was gay. His path leads him to Lincoln’s diner, where he asks for a job. He’s thrilled when Lincoln agrees to hire him, but finds his new boss perplexing. Can anyone be this kind and decent?
What starts out as business becomes something more. Noel discovers he needs Lincoln in order to feel safe. Lincoln needs Noel to complete him. But when Lincoln’s past gets in the way of his present, will the two have a future?
REVIEW:
I have yet to read a book from Parker that I do not like. More so, that I love. And this book is no different. It is so good. It will make you laugh, cry, rage in anger at assholes, and most importantly, love. Each character is so in depth. You know how people say sometimes people are like an onion? That’s a good analogy for these guys. Just when you think you figure them out, another layer comes off and leaves you going “wow”.
Lincoln’s character to me had the most layers. When you first ‘meet’ him, he seems like this sweetest man who cares so much for his few friends. But he takes no crap off people. Especially his brother, who visits often. But when you learn about who Linc used to be, he’s completely changed. He was a complete asshole. He didn’t care who he stepped on to get his way. He didn’t think of others when he flashed his money. But something in his life changed him. (And no I’m not telling what. You need to read).
Noel was my favorite. I’m one of those who is always for the ‘underdog’. Being kicked out by his parents for being gay, he’s done all he can just to survive. Fortunately, he found a good friend who runs a shelter that took him in to help him, but Noel knew he couldn’t stay there forever. And meeting Linc changed his life. Linc didn’t see him for his ratty clothes or his holey shoes. He saw a beautiful young man who needed a hand up.
The chemistry between these two was ….shew….smokin’. Linc bless his heart tried to fight it, but Noel, lol, lovely, sweet Noel, came at him no holds barred. I laughed so hard at the antics these two got up to. They were constantly trying to ‘one up’ each other as far as turning the other one. Oh gah, I was crying from laughing so hard.
What touched me the most though, was their hearts. Noel made some surprise decisions in order to be there for Linc. Linc had to make some hard decisions too. In order to stay the beautiful people they are. Both have the biggest hearts. They take care of so many in any way they can. It may not be the best or the biggest or whatever, but it always comes from love.
And that’s what’s so important. Love. Everything should come from. Even when we have to make some downright shitty decisions in order to love ourselves and our loved ones, let it come from love.
I cannot recommend this book enough. It’s an amazing story.
