BLURB:
Ten years ago, Dominic Walsh faked his own death. With no true identity, it wasn’t hard. But if he’d stayed, he would have been drawn further into a life he’d never chosen. He has friends and family at Ward Security now and has managed to escape his dark past. There is only one thing he truly wants.
Abraham Stephens.
When Dom was first tasked with watching over his friend’s father, he didn’t expect to fall so hard for the gorgeous silver fox. But Abe is interested in friendship only. He’s at a point in his life where he wants something permanent, not a romp with the sexy redhead who happens to be the same age as his son.
But Abe finds himself drawn deeper into Dom’s life when cryptic messages start appearing—ones that frighten the skilled security specialist. The more Dom tries to hide what’s happening, the more Abe wants to help him.
And maybe, just maybe, he’ll find a way to trust the strength of the bond Dom understood from the start.
Another winner from this dynamic authorly duo. While I don’t feel quite the same connection to this group as I did with the Protectors gang, their stories are still engaging, exciting and all around page turners. This was no different. And, there is the added bonus of catching glimpses of the other guys here and there. But, in this installment, we have a somewhat different dynamic. Dom, who we know from the previous books, has been trying to woo the older Abe, Dom’s friend and co-worker Shane’s father, without much luck. Abe is holding strong that he is not ready to take a chance on losing his heart after what his ex-wife put him through, much less one Dom’s age (the same age as his son).
Eventually, Dom’s relentless pursuit pays off, and they start a slow but steady relationship getting to know one another. Dom has a bit of a reputation of being a player, but he isn’t hesitating to put that aside for Abe and ironically ends up being the one who slows things down. Unfortunately, before things really get a chance to take hold, Dom’s past comes crashing in, in spectacular fashion, by way of an evil twin brother set on making Dom pay for his past betrayal. Not wanting to involving anyone else (like his boss, who could actually help) and to keep Abe safe, he faces his brother head on.
Thankfully, Abe cares enough at this point to see there is something wrong and does some digging on his own which alerts the boys at Ward, who do what they do best. Which, of course, results in an exciting, edge of your seat, need to find out how it all ends, read. Highly recommend this series, as well as the Protectors, so you too can fall in love with these special guys.
