Alex-Zander Metcalf knew his life would always be filled with twists and turns, especially living in the public eye while playing the role of front man for his band Ivory Tower. That’s what made life interesting and he loved every aspect about his job in the music world.
Living in a long-term polyamorous relationship with a husband and a wife also created a fair amount of ups and downs. Add two rambunctious daughters to the house and you had a sweet cocktail of chaos and pure joy and the unexpected awaiting him every day. His life was overflowing, but he wouldn’t have changed a thing, because it was damn near perfect.
He knew nothing in life was guaranteed and never to take things for granted, but that didn’t have him anymore prepared for what he was facing now. With his life completely upside down, Alex wasn’t sure how he’d ever be able to move forward. But life as he knew it was gone, and it was up to him to dig deep and find a way through the fog with the only remaining “constant” in his life: Chase.
How do you find a new path when you feel so lost you can’t see the road ahead of you through the unrelenting darkness? Where do you even begin such a journey, when the landscape is so vastly different from what was once familiar, and the resentment you have for needing to start over tastes like acrid bitterness on your tongue?
Alex must find the strength to push on and find a way to reinvent himself and all the relationships in his life, but creating this new version of himself won’t come easy.
REVIEW:
When I discovered that we were getting a brand new Rock Gods Series book I couldn’t believe my eyes . I was sure that we were relegated to only see glimpses of our men in passing while learning about their guards. I couldn’t wait to get my hands on this book!
“Reinventing Us” is the next step in Alex, Danni and Chase’s story. We have seen them meet and fall in love and then witnessed them have their commitment ceremony. Danni has given birth to two beautiful little princesses, Lyric and Melody. Life has gotten really busy with Alex, the front man for Ivory Tower, writing and recording, Chase, along side Jayson, with his successful construction company , and Danni teaching her Pilates classes and taking care of the girls with their many activities. When a devastating moment changes all their lives forever can life ever go back to the way it was or even stand a chance to move forward?
I barely got into this book and began questioning if this was the book for me. I wasn’t happy with the turns that Alex, Dani and Chase’s polyamorous relationship seemed to be going. I love triads and this series was what really turned me on to them. I love the complex dynamics it takes to make a relationship like that work. Now add in a couple of kids with three very busy parents and chaos will occur. I got 5% in and said “nope, I can’t do this” but I knew I would be letting both myself and Ann Lister down if I didn’t trudge forward. Then the darkness stared to consume Alex and I got really scared. Depression is a hard illness to battle…I know this personally. You don’t want to admit, not even to yourself, that you have it. And then it starts to suck you under. Luckily I got help for mine before it got too bad and spiraled out of control. Seeking help doesn’t make you weak. It’s the exact opposite. You have to be very strong to dig out of that crippling hole. As it is, I am beyond grateful that I did trudge on and finished this amazing book. Ann did a fabulous job of describing the lowest of lows but, with the help of family, friends and professional help, showed how you can get out, start to recover and learn how to regain your life back again.
While it was under circumstances that I wouldn’t want anyone to have to endure, seeing all of the men and their significant others from Black Ice and Ivory Tower come to the support of one of their own was touching and wonderful. These men really are “all brothers by choice.” They love and look out for each other in a way that is truly loving and inspiring.
I refuse to give away any spoilers so it has been a tad bit difficult to write this review. My heart has been all over the place with book. I have actually cried because my heart hurt so much. But this book was so very needed. I’m not thrilled with some of the twists and turns but neither am I with how some things happen in real life at times either. And that is what this book is…It’s as real as life can get. One moment you are cruising along and think to have it all and then, in a blink of an eye, total chaos throws you right on your butt. This book will make you want to grab hold of your loved ones and never want to let go.
