REVIEW:
Well I haven’t found a book yet by J.C. that I don’t like. This is just as good as the rest. I absolutely loved it. I loved that there was chemistry within the main characters but it wasn’t about sex for them. This book was all about plot. The betrayals, the manipulations, the destruction of innocents, and about the few people who have to buck the system in order to do what’s right. Sounds almost poetic in today’s society. It was a great read from front to back.
Hikaru is sent to find out about his fellow worker, Katya, but she’s vanished it seems without a trace. And that’s not setting well with him. When he returns to his room to report his findings to the bosses, he’s ordered home. That really upsets him. I mean why would they not want to find her? And man I did not want to be in his shoes just then. He has to make a decision: return or go with his gut that something is off and keep digging. Well, he steeled up his sac and did it. He basically said screwed you and went to find her.
Then we have Thane who is a Tracer, trying to find this psycho, Horn. They know he’s up to something and there is a HUGE bounty on his head. But something is hinky with him as well. Thane and Hikaru cross paths and decide to work together to figure out what is going on and I don’t envy either of them when they find out.
Holy manipulations, Batman! People are not who they seem. And people they hoped not to see, of course show up. And something that was thought to happen, didn’t. For Hikaru, it’s a betrayal. For Thane, it’s a promise of revenge. For both, it’s a race against time to figure out what the hell is really happening and how fast they can fix it before too many innocents are hurt.
I loved watching these two work. I loved that, yes there was chemistry, but this book has NO sex. It’s about what’s happening. What’s going on. And the book was made all the better I think for it. These two are discovering in the workings together that there is more to both of them then what was originally thought. I love that each is starting to see the subtle differences that most wouldn’t see. It also helps when they are in trouble. That’s why I love J.C.’s characters. There is always an undercurrent with them. Sometimes it’s subtle. Sometimes it’s like peeling an onion for all the layers to them.
The plot in this book was so good. It was page after page of some kind of action, something to work through. I wasn’t bored. I couldn’t put the book down, I was so anxious to see what happened next and who got who. I really think especially for you sci-fiers, you will get a kick out of it. Hell, for any of you, I do. It’s a great read.
