Welcome to David C.Dawson who joins us today to talk about new release “For the Love of Luke”.
Thank you so much to Love Bytes for letting me stop by!
For the Love of Luke is a story of love, and has been a work of love for me. Not just the wonderful heroes Rupert and Luke, but also the British locations they visit in the book.
One of them is the BBC’s newsroom in central London. I worked as a journalist for the BBC for several years. When I first worked there in the eighties we were still using manual typewriters to write our stories. We had to use three sheets of paper with two sheets of carbon paper between them to make copies. That meant we had to type the story perfectly, with no corrections. When you’re on a deadline and you need to correct mistakes on three separate sheets of paper it wastes valuable time. I can tell you, it really focuses your mind and forces you to think what you’re writing before you commit it to print! The experience has helped me enormously in my writing career. Even with modern word processing, I still compose the story in my head before I type it into the computer.
I moved from radio news to television in the mid 1980s. The first series I worked on was called Facing up to Aids. Our aim was to give people facts about HIV and safe sex. I am proud to say that our show was the first on British TV to demonstrate putting on a condom. The BBC was far too scared of showing anything as risqué before then! We broke many boundaries on that show, and I like to think we helped a little to push back on the relentless spread of HIV.

BLURB:
A handsome naked man. Unconscious, on a bathroom floor. He’s lost his memory, and someone’s out to kill him. Who is the mysterious Luke? British TV anchor and journalist Rupert Pendley-Evans doesn’t do long term relationships. Nor does he do waifs and strays. But Luke is different. Luke is a talented American artist with a dark secret in his life. When Rupert discovers Luke he’s first intrigued, and before he can stop himself, he’s in love. The aristocratic Rupert is an ambitious TV reporter with a nose for a story and a talent for uncovering the truth. As he falls deeper in love with Luke, he discovers the reason for Luke’s amnesia. And the explanation puts them both in mortal danger.
David C. Dawson writes contemporary thrillers featuring gay heroes in love. His debut novel The Necessary Deaths is published by DSP Publications and was described as “a real page turner”. It won Bronze for Best Mystery & Suspense in the FAPA awards. Rainbow Reviews called it “an exciting read with complex characters”.
The Deadly Lies is the second book in the series and came out last December.
For the Love of Luke is David’s third book. His fourth comes out in 2019.
David lives near Oxford in the UK, with his ageing Triumph motorbike and two cats.

Question: What was the name of the first TV series David worked on in the 1980s?
Facing up to Aids of course!
I saw this book reviewed on another blog and added it to my list. The cover is gorgeous and the blurb thought provoking.
I’m also excited to learn Mr. Dawson has written other books. I’m going to check them out next!
