REVIEW:
I am a big fan of this series and was excited to see Mark and Liam as a matchup and hear their story.
Mark Masters works as a private investigator at Stonewall Investigations, a lgbtq+ friendly private investigation firm in New York City. He is sitting at his desk working when his boyfriend of over a year walks in and unceremoniously dumps him. He is totally dumbfounded and blindsided by Chris and thinks being shocked is over for his day. He couldn’t have been more wrong because, moments later Andrew, the company’s receptionist, brings in a new drop-in client. That client just happens to be the boyhood best friend that moved away and disappeared from his life, leaving a gaping hole in his heart. Liam Wolfe, an Oscar winning director, is having the worst week. Some scumbag is trying to ruin his life, his reputation and his livelihood with an anonymous letter to all the industry “rags” defaming him and casting him as an evil person who is stealing from his films. He knows the lies are all false but how can he clear his name? When his best friend Griffin suggests he go to his boyfriend Alex’s firm he had no idea he would be finding the boy, now an extremely handsome man, that had captivated his mind and heart so many years before. But can these men, who meant so much to each other growing up, recapture their feelings while trying to clear Liam’s good name?
I have to start out with the fact that I want…no need the Unicorn killer caught and gone! Max, you are gutting me with this person! I need closure before anyone else gets harmed in this investigation. Zane and the people of Stonewall Investigations need this evil person caught so that they can finally have closure and peace in their lives. I was really looking forward to Collin and his Count’s story next.
I had been looking forward to Liam and Mark’s story. I had originally guessed/thought that Mark and Collin were a thing but I began to realize that they were just best friends and not romantically involved. That’s the thing with Max Walker books/series…I don’t see things coming and the “BAM” they take a sharp jag to the right or left. I had been intrigued with Griffin’s best friends but didn’t see this twist coming at all. I loved that, even though both boys didn’t come from wealth, that Mark accepted Liam’s status but didn’t let it get to him. That he stayed grounded while Liam could be a bit extravagant at times. I also loved that Mark was the natural born protector but Liam would rise to that level when Mark needed him most. They were the perfect ying and yang for each other.
I have become a big time fan of Max Walker and his series. They aren’t just romantic fluff but tackle the issues confronting our lgbtq+ community. I love how he develops spin-off series when a particular person, or in this case, company catches your eye and worms into you heart. I loved this book and can’t wait for the next one. We are promised to spend more time with Zane and Enzo and I truly hope that Zane can end this awful Unicorn killers reign of terror once and for all! I highly recommend this book and the whole series.
