Can love survive the perils of MacGregor House?
The Supernatural Explorers are back and looking for their next big paranormal case. They might’ve found it in a plea from Payne, a mild-mannered librarian who has inherited the family mansion—MacGregor House. Since moving in a few months ago, Payne’s exhausted the list of ghost hunters and experts in his quest for help. The Supers are his last chance.
So why does normally good-natured cameraman Will take an instant dislike to Payne? For that matter, why has he felt irritable and angry since they arrived at the site? It soon becomes clear that the answers they seek will be found in the basement—where nobody has gone since Payne was a little boy. As the haunting grows deadlier, things get sweeter between Will and Payne, but all hell’s about to break loose when they breach the basement door.
Will they be ready?
REVIEW:
Duh, duh, du du du daaaa duhhhh – Ghostbusters.
Sorry, just had to do that.
Yes, The Super’s are back in another gripping adventure of ghost hunting, and there’s not a plasma gun in sight. Although a series, this is the first one I’ve read, and was able to read it as a standalone. Blaine, Flynn, Jason, Darnell, and Will are the team – Payne MacGregor is their client. Payne has sunk everything into renovating the family home. Unfortunately, the dead residents are making his life stressful, moving items, occasionally violently, and locking him in rooms. He feels he has no option but to call in the experts.
Blaine is the talented one who can sense the spirits, Will is the cameraman – the other’s have roles too, but if I were to tell you everything, it might spoil some of book one. In need of a real ghost for their TV series, they take on the MacGregor case.
To begin with, Payne’s interactions with The Super’s are strained and awkward as both sides get used to dealing with each other. The Super’s are inquisitive whereas Payne is tired and wants enough peace to be able to finally sleep. The whole thing is taxing to Payne and an especially antisocial, Will, doesn’t ease matters. Will has no idea why being around Payne needles him. It has been suggested that another entity could be influencing him.
It isn’t long before the ghosts start acting up. Blaine senses more than one presence. Some are good and there to help, others aren’t, and there’s something nasty in the basement.
Yes, it’s a ghost story, but it’s not an airy-fairy one. It is down to earth in all respects, including the toilet humour. And the sizzle factor is hot as hell.
I am not the type that enjoys horror movies. The Librarian’s Ghost had just the right level of scary for me. The story ticked all the right boxes. I liked the characters. It was believable, scary in the right places, had my heart pumping, delivered a good dose of drama and it had something that made me need a cold shower.
Having read this, I just might look up the other stories in The Super’s Series.
