Tirath
Rosie is my friend, the one person I can always rely on, so, naturally, when my world comes crashing around my ears, she’s the person I run to. What I haven’t counted on is my reaction to seeing her in the flesh after all these years. I want her, but having played the dating game for years, how do I show her that?
Rosie
Tirath is my friend, and she’s in trouble. So, I have no business noticing how soft her skin is. To jump my friend’s bones is a very, very bad idea, but I can’t help responding to the subtle hints she is delivering. It’s been way too long since I got laid, and I’m reading into things that just aren’t there—or am I? Only one way to find out, and I hope like hell it doesn’t ruin our friendship. This girl has always been mine.
REVIEW:
The dedication of this story says it all—“to all the best friends out there.” Bestie or not, we’ve all had that one friend who made you think, what if? What if we acted on those feelings that never quite had a time and place? BFFs Rosie and Tirath reconnect in this short story over a personal tragedy and find out that the time is now to take that leap into the next part of their relationship.
Though the two women have amazing, sizzling chemistry, there’s a lack of actual seduction in this story, which is a little disappointing. Some mutual pining was hinted at for a few pages, but when it came to crossing the boundaries between friendship and romance, it all happened pretty quickly, with both women jumping in right away. I didn’t get any feel for their history as friends besides a class difference—no inside jokes, no childhood memories. The “best friend” part was never talked about as much as I wanted. But for a short story, I did get a good feeling for their dynamic and how they relate to one another. I especially love Rosie’s protectiveness over her naïve BFF and the way she refers to Tirath as “hers” or “her princess.”
Unfortunately, the big love scene in this story contains my very least favorite erotic element—food mixed with sex. Chocolate might taste good, but when mixed with the bathing-suit areas, it just cannot be aesthetically pleasing. And all I could think about as Rosie and Tirath dribbled melted chocolate all over each other’s bodies was how they were in for a nasty yeast infection if they weren’t careful! That part might be playful and sexy to some, but it only made me cringe.
I definitely think the entire idea for this series is super fun. The other books in the series revolve around characters of all genders, sexualities, and body types, and they’re all friends who eventually turn into something more. There was a lot of cute and steamy stuff between Rosie and Tirath, but I was really hoping for a little more story and background so we could really get invested in their relationship.
