BLURB:
Darcy’s newest assignment is to play the role of boyfriend to a wealthy socialite, but never expected the intense attraction to his date’s brother. Falling for Adrian is dangerous and certainly not part of the plan.
Adrian has been as unlucky in love as his sister, but he doesn’t approve of hiring a boyfriend, whatever the reason. Until he meets Darcy. Then he comes to realize that love can happen in the most unexpected of ways.
One week. That is all the two men needed to fall in lust, but will they have a lifetime to fall in love?
REVIEW:
When a person’s attention and kindness is bought and paid for, how does one know whether it is real when it is aimed at you?
Adrian’s sister Abbey needs a date for a wedding that is due to be laced with in-family squabbling, expectations and control posturing. Essentially married to her work, she hires Darcy to divert family attention. However, there is a spark between Darcy and Adrian that makes the job difficult. The attraction is fueled by the fact that Abbey and Adrian are incredibly close making it virtually impossible to interact with one without the other. The more time Darcy spends with them, the more he likes them. At the same time, Darcy feels protective over the siblings, and this helps convince relatives that he’s the real deal. It also makes it harder to keep his hands of Adrian.
Told in the third person from Darcy and Adrian’s pov’s. The overall story seems pretty straightforward with no huge drama’s or angst. What makes it lovely to read are the relatable conversations within the wedding venue. The scene setting is exquisite. Just enough to get the imagination in the right place, without going overboard.
The blurb makes it sound like Darcy is a youngster. He’s not old, but he has seen Army action and received injuries. Adrian always seems to pick the wrong man, and despite the spark between himself and Darcy – he finds it difficult to separate the man from the job or are they one and the same. From the start, I liked the pace and fire behind the passionately expressed words. All the central characters have their place. Charlotte’s role is especially meaty, and if this were a film, hers would be the role many an actress would want.
Given the length of this story, it is difficult to give an in-depth review without revealing too many secrets. What I will say is that Darcy is one of those stories that one can’t help finishing with a smile on the face and warm fuzzy feelings.
