Sometimes you must fall before you can fly free.
Despite having had a rough life, Seth has a big heart. After spending nearly ten years sleeping rough on the streets of New York, he’s managed to get himself freelance work and a place to live. But his new found security is about to be torn apart, as the horrors of his past come back to haunt him in the worst possible way.
Dante was sent to watch over a young Seth when his mother died. As an angel, he had many rules to follow. The most important of which was to never fall in love—especially when it involves a human who is your charge. For the last ten years, Dante has kept his feelings for Seth hidden. That is until the night Seth’s past catches up with him.
When Seth is murdered, their destinies are changed forever. Feelings and emotions come to the surface, but will the rules that govern the afterlife keep Dante and Seth apart for eternity, or will they be able to find their happily ever after together?
REVIEW:
Oh boy was this a wild ride. Seth is a wonderful character and I totally fell in love with him from the start, when he distributes coffee to the homeless people he used to live among. He’s managed to pull himself up and make a life for himself, despite a poor start and witnessing a horrific crime, from which he is still running. One of the homeless guys he saves a special coffee for is an enigmatic cutie with electric blue eyes.
What Seth doesn’t know is that the cutie is, in fact, his guardian angel, Dante who has been slowly falling in love with him.
One thing Dante knows that Seth doesn’t, is that Seth is about to die. When his past catches up with him in the worst possible way, Dante wants to save him but, like the rest of us, has to watch while he dies a slow and painful death at the hands of a monster. This part killed me. Seth is such a wonderful character, to be inside his head for his final hours then moments is traumatic. The authors are cruel, heartless monsters, in the best possible way.
Thankfully, this isn’t the last of the story, or of Seth. Having passed on, Seth is given the choice of where he would like to move on to, but he can’t let go until the man who killed him is brought to justice. He risks his soul, and Dante risks even more, to go back to earth to complete what seems an impossible task.
Whilst I usually enjoy stories where the character pov’s change frequently, I had a little trouble with this one, only because the start of a new character’s pov often simple recapped a previous scene from a different perspective. I found this annoying.
There were also a few occasions when I found something slightly unbelievable. That is, in the way people spoke or reacted. I didn’t always feel the vocabulary fitted the character.
All that being said, I found Seth and Dante’s journey in search of justice and beyond, to be charming, exciting and rewarding. The characterisation can’t be faulted, and the flow of the story was fluid and engaging. There were times when I ached for these boys, and times when I laughed with them. Times when I got angry with them and for them, and times when I just smiled and thought “yeah”.
I have to mention how much I hate Killian.
This is by no means a straightforward story. There are enough twists and turns to keep anyone entertained, and a good deal of meat to both narrative and characters. It’s a good book to read when you want a bit more than froth, but don’t want a complete breakdown.
I can recommend to anyone who likes ghosts, angels or grumpy police officers who pretend to be homeless.

Now, I know this one would simply kill me. It sounds so agonizing with the death of one of the MCs. But, even though I know it will hurt, I still want to read it. It does sound like my kind of perfect book.
Thanks for the review, Cheryl. It sounds oh, so good!
