Love and Murder — Jake Chandler is a struggling small-town Florida lawyer, and his life is falling apart. His ex-wife makes seeing his daughter difficult, his boyfriend Noah may be cheating on him, and his money woes are growing. Jake hopes that a new murder defense case will help with his money woes, but his ex-wife Elena is the prosecutor. It’s bad enough she has to fight with him over custody of their daughter. Now she wants nothing more than to beat him in the courtroom, too.
And then people around him start dying.
First, an ex-lover gets his brains blown out while he and Jake have coffee. The danger comes even closer. Then Jake meets handsome FBI agent Xavier, who is investigating the crimes surrounding him. Can Jake trust this new man in his life? Is Xavier who he says he is? Or does his involvement put Jake and those he loves in even more danger?
Love and Pain — After their too-thrilling courtship that included capturing his former lover’s killer, Jake Chandler has started a new life for himself with FBI agent Xavier. Living together is wonderful, but moving to Washington D.C. has resulted in temporary jobs that don’t last long. When Jake finally lucks out on a too-good-to-be-true position with a big law firm, Xavier suspects Jake’s new boss is crooked.
With some sleuthing, snooping, and close calls, Jake gets deeper into trouble at work, and conflicts with Xavier make his world start to crumble. When a key witness is shot to death in front of Jake, they both begin to realize how high the stakes are. Can Jake and Xavier get through these threats and find happiness with each other?
REVIEW:
So…to begin…I’ve never read anything by this author before…so his writing style and his works are completely new to me…that was a good thing. I could go in without any expectations.
Love & Murder…this book focuses in on Jake Chandler…this man who is finally living his authentic life…but it came at a price…he had to divorce his wife an have their daughter live away from him. He also is an attorney who got fired from his old job as the lover that he has now, Noah…was his client before they got together. To make matters worse…Jake’s former lover…was a partner in the law firm that he worked at…sigh…Jake sure makes life hard for himself.
I did feel bad for Jake as it turns out…he started his own law firm…that isn’t doing very well…as well as Noah, his boyfriend…is cheating on him…yikes and he’s now caught up in this whole murder deal…you actually feel bad for him…but then…there’s the whining…I can’t help it…the whole poor me thing…gets annoying and very redundant…at one point…I was really getting done with all the bad…like…really. Jake does make mistakes and for the most part…he owns them…and works hard to make things right…I did like that about him. I love that he loved his daughter and wanted to do right by her.
The whole murder/mystery…yikes…this was actually pretty good…it took me a minute to figure out who it was and that was only as the clues started coming together…so…that was actually fun and I enjoyed having to figure out who it was. When you do…you’re like…Jake has crap taste in men…but as he was hiding who he was…you can see he wasn’t very picky. Ivan…another one of Jake’s men is pivotal to this story…just remember that as all of
Love & Pain…Here we pick up awhile after Love & Murder…about a year or so and Jake & Xavier are living in DC and Jake is working for a temp agency doing legal work…Jake gets a job at a law firm that’s being investigated. Things are fishy from jump with this firm…the guy who hires Jake is like…you only report to me and use cash only…yeah…that would tip you off that all isn’t right there.
Ivan reaches out to his brother…to fix i.e. take a hit out on Jake…sigh…this guy just can’t seem to catch a break…
Jake and Xavier are having some issues in their relationship as Xavier seems to put the Bureau ahead of his relationship with Jake and as we all know…Jake is a runner and that’s exactly what he does.
The plot and the writing was pretty well done and it kept me intrigued enough to want to find out how it ends. I will say that I enjoyed the very end of the book…I like how it all came together in the end.
Overall, I have to say that I the storylines kept me intrigued enough to finish the books…however, Jake…he made me want to hit him upside the head multiple times and scream…GET OVER YOURSELF & FIGURE SHIT OUT!! Jake has HORRIBLE Taste in men and holy shit…his life chices…yeah…don’t get me started.
