BLURB:
Dr. Mikhail “Misha” Budnikov takes one look at fellow fencer Ryan O’Connor and instantly knows his type. The undisciplined hothead is all ego with no finesse and even less control. In short, Misha’s pet peeves personified. To put the arrogant kid in check, Misha challenges him to a sparring match, which he predictably wins.
Not so predictably, Ryan asks him to be a mentor and show him how to fence. Startled by the moment of humility, Misha agrees.
What begins as fencing lessons becomes something much hotter, and before they know it, Misha is giving Ryan an entirely different kind of education. Dominance, submission, pain, pleasure–at the hands of an older, experienced man, a whole new world is opening up for Ryan.
As the trust deepens and their bond strengthens, though, Ryan retreats because that sham called love left him jaded long ago. Cynical beyond his years, he’s not letting his guard down, least of all for a thrice-divorced man twice his age.
Now Misha has to find a way to crack through those defenses…or accept defeat and walk away from the submissive who might just be the love of
his life.
REVIEW:
Ryan: The hot head who thinks he is better than everyone he comes in contact with while fencing.
Misha: Iron-willed, level headed, and tough as nails. He sees Ryan at the fencing club and watches as Ryan literally plows through opponents.
Ryan is arrogant and self centered as he takes up his position on the piste. Hurling vocal blows at the other man. But no matter what Ryan does, he does not sway the man in the mask. After Misha wins he is stunned when Ryan asks for lessons. Maybe he was wrong. As lessons start Ryan whines about the drab and boring practice steps. Misha knows what may help center this man.
Submission is everything Ryan never knew he needed. When Misha tells him to kneel, all of his rampant thought swim away and leave him raw. Misha knows Ryan doesn’t want a relationship, he is jaded from watching his own family wither away from this so called thing called love. But Misha knows Ryan is perfect for him in every way and falls deep and hard. Can Ryan figure out how to love someone when he has never seen any kind of love himself?
First things first. I thought I may be lost in this book as I know nothing about fencing. But, I did not need to know about fencing to enjoy this book. At all. Actually I am glad it was fencing and not football, baseball, or hockey. It is something different, and I love that. This book has some BDSM themes but I wouldn’t call it that sort of book. There is one or two explicit BDSM scenes and the rest are either regular sex or it is mentioned that they had a scene together. BDSM is not their life, not even half of their life.
This book was written so well. I never got bored, was always waiting for more, and never wanted this book to end. Almost all books I read I am done with the couple once the book is done. But I could listen to more books about Ryan and Misha forever. The plot was well fleshed, there wasn’t too much of one thing. It was a perfect blend of BDSM, sex, fencing, arguing, practicing, crying, etc.. and i absolutely loved the surprise sex scene, it was one of the best scenes I have ever listened to. It was like I was there in Ryan’s skin, experiencing the whole thing myself (I don’t want to spoil the surprise).
Disclaimer: don’t listen to this book if you do not want to be turned on. The whole time I was listening I was turned on. It’s not just the sex scenes. It’s the way Misha was written and performed. I’m not submissive in any way but even he made me wish he was real so I could kneel in front of him! Michael did such wonderful voice acting for Misha, I can still hear him in my mind a week later. Misha doesn’t even sound like Michael’s voice (and we know he has a very distinct voice). He put his heart and soul into Misha, I can tell. Of course he did a wonderful job with Ryan too. But he is so talented to be able to do Misha’s accent and be able to have that dominating quality to his voice. Then bam! He switches to Misha’s loving and caring voice. I have loved all of Michael’s narrations. I always am looking for more books with him as a narrator. But he blew every narrator out there out of the water with this book!
I wish I could give this book 10 hearts. I would give it 10/5! From the wonderfully almost poetically written book to the spot on narration, there is not one thing i would change or comment negatively on! One of my top 5 books of all time, for sure. I can’t wait to listen to it again.
