Peyton ~
Landing a job at Little Creations, after my previous job went under, was literally a life saver. Without Tyler taking a chance on me, I would’ve been living with my Aunt Irene in Oregon, helping out at her Bed and Breakfast. While I love my job and life in Middlebury, my love-life is nonexistent after a recent break-up. That is, until I meet Marshall. The attraction between us is palpable, but I can’t take that next step with him, no matter how hard I try. How can I convince Marshall to be okay with what I’m willing to give him, and that I’ll be worth the wait?
Marshall ~
Family means everything to me. Aside from my sister and adorable niece, my grandfather is the most important person in my life. And knowing that I’m keeping a secret from all of them is slowly killing me inside. Then I meet Peyton one afternoon, and I can’t bring myself to stay away from him. Questions start to fill my mind, and I find myself wondering if he’s worth the risk. But how do I tell the people I love a secret so big it could change all of our lives forever? How do I tell them that I’m gay?
Peyton and Marshall each have secrets that make them wary of relationships. After a chance encounter at Peyton’s job, they decide to give each other a shot and see what happens. Frustrations over keeping the relationship hidden puts a major strain on them, and the couple begins to doubt whether it’s worth the risk. Can Peyton and Marshall’s relationship withstand the stress each of them bring to the table? Or will they decide it isn’t worth it after all?
REVIEW:
This is another one of those series I’m becoming addicted to. And I really like to see the different aspects of sexuality coming up. Not everyone is straight straight or straight gay. We all have differences. And it was good to see another side of it come up.
Marshall is doing his sis a favor by taking his niece to her art class. Even though he would do anything for his little niece, seeing the most beautiful man alive in front of him makes him want to come back more. But Marshall isn’t out to many people. Especially not his family. So even when he gets Peyton to agree to go on a date with him, he totally screws it up. He friend-zoned Peyton to hide him. Peyton is hurt and upset and angry. He refused to be a dirty little secret. He agrees, against his better judgement, to go on another date, and it’s better but the tension is still there. But Peyton is hiding his own secret. When he tells Marshall what it is, Marshall does all he can to understand it. But he’s still hiding. When confronted by part of his family on a date with Peyton, he chickens out of telling what’s really going on and that’s the icing on the cake for Peyton. For him, it’s over. Marshall is miserable without Peyton but his fears are overwhelming him. He only hopes his family will still love him, because he has to figure out a way to get Peyton back and keep him.
It’s hard coming out. Seeing all these horror stories these days of asshole parents, it’s torture. It’s terrifying. Even if you are doing it as an adult. We have that innate need to please our parents, so the fear is overwhelming. I can just imagine how Marshall feels. But then again, I get Peyton too. No one wants to feel like they are being hidden or feel like their date is ashamed of them. That’s just wrong. So this was a hard book in that sense. Lots of nail-biting lol. It broke my heart when Peyton was finally beginning to feel ‘normal’ in a relationship only for Marshall to screw up. When you give so much of yourself and have it slammed in your face……. Not a pretty picture. But when the apology is sincere, and the trying is real, it’s hard to hold on to the anger. These boys both had things to learn and deal with. Granted Marshall had more than most. But Peyton had to learn as well, not everyone is his shitty ex.
I think you guys will love this series, if you haven’t been reading it already. It’s really good and addicting. And there’s a hint to who the next book is about and I’m definitely ready lol.
