Dying is easy. New love is terrifying.
Avery Wagner quit ghostwalking when he lost his beloved anchor to cancer. Now teaching others who have the ability, he’s beginning to live again—but he’s not looking for another lover, not now, maybe not ever.
But then he meets Jameson… younger, talented, dedicated, almost perfect, even though his mouth sometimes opens ahead of his brain. And Jameson wants Avery desperately, though he’ll settle for friendship if he can’t have more.
When an emergency demands they work together in the field, Avery discovers just how perfect Jameson is. But he had a perfect love once before, and he’s scared to even consider that he might have a chance at another. Can he trust Jameson with his newly healing heart?
REVIEW:
I am in love with this series and this book in particular. I have been waiting for Avery’s story and it was exactly what I needed at the time I needed it!
I absolutely love the way the author wrote these characters. Their personalities were so well done that I felt like I was in the story with these men. From the get go I got a good sense of who these men were as individuals and looked forward to seeing how these men interacted as a pair.
And I really loved the way the author set up this pairing. It wasn’t instant love. It was instats pull and attraction but these men slowly let down their guards and formed a teacher/student relationship followed by a friendship followed by a trusting working relationship. When they interacted, they had time to learn each other and get comfortable together so that when it turned into more, I felt like these men were a good fit and that they would last.
I really enjoyed the push and pull dynamic. Seeing Jameson become an eager puppy and chase Avery while still trying to just be a friend was amusing yet heartbreaking. And seeing Avery want Jameson but still be uncomfortable moving forward broke my heart but was also sweet and tentative. These men pulled out so many of my emotions it was wonderful.
But I think what I liked the most about this story was that it never crossed any of the lines I have. Avery was grieving and somber but never crossed into that depressing, self-deprecating phase that is whiny and all “woe-is-me.”. Jameson was so loving and understanding but never turned into that OTT doormat who let Avery have everything he wanted at a cost to Jameson himself. And this story was so emotional but never turned overly angsty or made me want to ugly cry. It was a perfect balance that was exactly what I crave in a story.
I recommend this series. It is unique and so well done. I enjoyed it and hope you will too.
