BLURB:
Ryley Skye can’t take anything seriously. Not the murder scenes he investigates, nor the fact that he’s cheating on his boyfriend. Not the bloody nightmares he gets every other night, and especially not Vic’s ridiculous theory that Ryley might be a mage.
Magic? Him? There’s just no way.
When Vic decides he’s had enough of Ryley’s cheating and breaks things off, it couldn’t come at a worse time. They’ve just been handed a case that will require them to work closely together, whether they like it or not. But Ryley plays along. He has to. He can’t afford any kind of confrontation. Things happen when he gets angry or aroused. Weird things. Bad things. He has to stay bottled up and in control at all times.
Then he meets Asher Arden, and indulges in what he thinks is a little rebound fling. But when Ryley loses control and puts Asher’s life at risk, he realizes two things: He loves Asher more than anything else in the world…
And Vic just might have been right all along.
(Note: This story takes place in a fictional world, the same as in the Shifting Isles Series. There are multiple gods, different names for the days of the week, etc. A glossary is included.)
REVIEW:
Well, G.R. Lyons has another hit on her hands with this series in a series. I love this one so much. The characters are so in-depth. There is so much complexity to them and what they go through and who they are. With what has shaped them to be the men they are. It has been an amazing journey. My only disappointment was I want to know more about Cam lol. BUT. That’s Vic’s story (which I hope is coming VERY SOON). *Hint hint lol*.
To most everyone, including his boyfriend Vic, Ryley just flies through life, not a care in the world. And most of the time, that’s how he really is. And his flying through life has finally cost him. Vic has found out about his infidelities and has had enough. Ryley is destroyed, but he can’t stop. Sex is like a drug for him. He knew he and Vic wouldn’t have the certain kind of relationship he needed but he loved the man. Maybe this new case they are working on will help him prove to Vic he’s not as bad as everyone thinks. Plus maybe it will get him off his back about this mage business. But the case they are on brings more than a few things to light. They find their missing person, and a mage finds Ryley. Ryley doesn’t want to hear it. But him almost causing a death pushes everything in forward motion and Ryley has to come to terms that he is different. Before his new love, Asher, suffers at his hands. Hopefully it won’t be too late.
When I read the first book, Ice on Fire, I loved Ryley’s personality off the bat. He seemed so fun loving and exciting. I just hated that he was cheating on Vic. I still hate it. Ryley hates it too. He feels so guilty, but where in the beginning he could accept things between he and Vic, now he can’t. He needs what Vic can’t give him. He just hates that he broke his heart. The more I read about Ryley, though, the more my emotions were all over the place. One minute I wanted to shake, the next, hug him. When he finds Asher, I wanted to throttle him. Asher was going through enough without Ryley adding to his hurt. But Asher changed him….to a point. But with each discovery about his life that he uncovered, I wanted to hug him, hold him, let him know he would make it. Thankfully he had Asher. 😉 And even Vic. Eventually. They just all have a lot to overcome. Vic even more so. Gah these guys. I don’t know. Maybe it’s the mom in me, but I want to coddle them all. Despite all the things that ALL of them have gone through, they are remarkable men. Even when being asses lol. They are just amazing and I love them.
You guys need to read these books. This series. It will leave you with a wonderful time. Even with the tragedies.
