Gray. Lost his twin. Will never be complete. Works alone.
Shadow. Monster? Human? Exists to be Gray’s one true companion.
After losing his twin brother, Gray has devoted his life to the Kings of Hell MC. He will do anything to protect his family and that means anything.
Even sell his own shadow to the devil.
Following a fire that left him without one arm, Gray feels pushed to the sidelines. In order to prove to his club that he is still capable of completing dangerous tasks, he will have to team up with the strange creature from the Other Side. Tall, inhumanly strong, and menacing despite the handsome exterior, Shadow is just the tool Gray needs.
The moment Shadow lays his eyes on Gray, he wants to crawl under Gray’s skin and make the human his.
Gray on the other hand isn’t willing to get attached to a monster destined to do the devil’s bidding and disappear once his time is up. Rejected, Shadow has to do everything in his power to convince his human that they belong together.
But as the clock ticks away precious minutes of Shadow’s existence, Gray will have to choose between his loyalty to the Kings of Hell MC and responsibility for the creature he brought into this world.
REVIEW:
I love the books these two ladies write, and I’ve been looking forward to this book since I saw the teaser for it. I’m going to have to keep it honest though and tell you it wasn’t my favorite of the series. I loved the character of Shadow, but Gray—he was a totally different story for a good portion of the book. This was one of the hardest books for me to get into that they’ve written… even though, as usual, the writing and storytelling were flawless. The story progressed the series and gave us some insight into Gray, but there were holes, even though the story was quite long.
Those of you who’ve been reading this series might guess that this one is one that should have grabbed me immediately. It had it all, ghosts, time-travelers, demons, and the character of Shadow. But I didn’t like the way Gray kept Shadow locked in the basement, and I wasn’t that into the story because of it. The book got better as it went along, and eventually I got to the point where Gray started to notice and understand Shadow and then I liked the book.
I think most of the open questions in this book were a set-up for the fifth and final book in the series that is listed as coming soon. There were a lot though. I totally didn’t understand the trees. And they were never explained in this book. They have something to do with Baal being able to invade Earth, but yeah, still not really sure what. And what happened to the two ghosts? And why did the authors feel the need for that part about the pinky finger… I didn’t like that.
Overall, I still really liked the book and that is why it is getting a 4.0 star. I hope that book five answers some of the wide-open questions that I have. I highly recommend the series as a whole… and recommend this one as a bridge to the fifth and final book.
