It might take the arrival of an alien being to remind an isolated man what it means to be human.
With a stressful job, his boss breathing down his neck for profitable results, and an estranged wife and daughter, scientist Kurt Lomax doesn’t think life can get much harder. Until a nonbinary extraterrestrial with an otherworldly beauty, captivating elegance, and a wicked sense of humor inconveniently shows up at his apartment.
Vardam watched the destruction of their own world, and they don’t want to see the same thing happen on Earth. They are lonely, and feelings soon develop between them and the supposedly straight scientist—feelings Kurt reciprocates, much to his confusion.
The arrival of cheery interpreter Tom Soames—whose Goth appearance belies a gentle heart—is like a ray of sunshine in the somber lab. He acts as matchmaker for man and tentacled extraterrestrial, unwittingly instigating a national crisis when the news breaks out.
But will a misunderstanding ruin Kurt and Vardam’s chances for happiness together—along with the hope for peace between humanity and the Var?

Very many thanks to the lovely people at Love Bytes Reviews for supporting my new release, Euphoria. Below you will find an EXCLUSIVE EXCERPT and at the end there is a GIVEAWAY of my scorching M/M Romance Erotica novel, Lexington Black, written by my pseudonym, S A Smythe!
Tom had almost forgotten about the man he had been employed to communicate with. He had been too focussed on wondering what a hospital porter actually did. He was sure they wouldn’t be hobnobbing with doctors over coffee in any NHS hospital.
They did not speak until they reached the U4. Even then, they waited until they were in the lab, behind closed doors. He put on a lab coat, feeling as if he was back at school, and walked with Lomax to the window into the enclosure with all the vegetation.
“Now for the reason you’re here,” Lomax said. “A week ago, a visitor arrived. How is a mystery. All of our attempts to communicate have failed. There’s no sign of speech, and we’re not sure if there is hearing capability. Certain gestures are used, which are strikingly familiar. I need you to attempt to communicate with this visitor, if possible.” Lomax motioned to the window behind them. “Have a look.”
Tom turned and looked. Through the thickened glass, two ruby red eyes stared right back.
“Fuck me! What is that thing? Some kind of lizard?” Although it looked too humanoid to be a lizard. And way too tall.
“It’s officially an alien life form. We’re keeping them in the enclosure for the moment because we don’t know what they’re capable of. One can’t be too careful.”
Tom could not believe what he was hearing. Or seeing.
“Having said that, when they arrived, they were carrying a note, in English, requesting to be brought to me.”
‘Sort of, “take me to your leader?””
Lomax’s eyes narrowed. “I hope you don’t think this is one big joke.”
“To be honest, I don’t know what to think. Could it be a hoax?”
Lomax’s face was grave. “You can see for yourself, they are as real as we are.”
“Why the secrecy? Don’t you think people would want to know this is happening?”
“Yes, they would, but compared to some of these life forms, we’re still running around, hitting each other with sticks. Can you imagine what would happen if people actually knew an alien had landed? Social unrest, heightened tensions between superpowers, possibly even war. We have something that everyone else wants. This puts us in a very powerful position, or a vulnerable one, depending how you look at it. And we have no idea of its capabilities yet.”
“I get all that, but why me? I taught myself BSL just to get a guy into bed. Half the words I use are made up. There’s got to be loads of experts who know how to do it properly.”
“You fitted the profile we needed. Cameras are on 24 hours a day, and any sounds are also recorded. They haven’t shown any sign of aggression but until we are sure, they’ll stay behind the glass.”
Tom peered into the enclosure. He could see a bed, a basin, a whole lot of greenery, and …. the thing.
“Holy crap,” he whispered.
Their whole body was covered in dainty iridescent scales which made the creature shimmer and change colour as they moved. The eyes were slanted, elliptical pools of ruby, with black diamond-shaped irises that contracted and widened as they watched him. Sharp cheek-bones and black lines under the eyelids gave the creature a Gothic appearance, and the mouth was characterised by a cleft top lip under a feline nose. The well-shaped head was crowned by two neat, triangular ears, which seemed to move independently of each other to pick up the slightest sound. The whole apparition seemed half-feline, half-human, and wholly the most beautiful thing Tom had ever seen in his life.

Since she was a small child, Jayne has always sympathized with the villain. It all began with Alice Cooper, even though she was banned from listening to his music by her mother. From wanting to sail away with Captain Hook or redeeming the Child Catcher, the antihero has been an enduring fascination ever since.
After a two-year sojourn in New Jersey and two decades of child-rearing, Jayne is an outwardly respectable member of an English village community. She also is one of the founder members of WROTE podcast, which is dedicated to showcasing LGBTQA authors and their work, and now writes book reviews as well as diverse fiction.
She is also in a sub/dom relationship with a cat called Keith.
