Summer fun. Summer sun. What’s a knife thrower to do when the lion tamer he wants doesn’t want him? Well, go out and get his groove thing on, of course. Unless…that lion tamer turns out to be his mate. Then the fireworks will really start.
The circus is a place for the unusual, a sanctuary for the wanderer. For the circus knife thrower Jake Gallinari, it was the place he stumbled to as a child. He arrived broken in spirit and body, hungering for affection. He found love, acceptance, and a family to call his own.
Blaine Leander needed a sanctuary as well. The lion tamer had no idea that he would one day see his mate in the circus, no less. For seven years he’s watched Jake grow into a man, afraid to take the step to make Jake his own.
It’s summer, and with the bright sun and the blue sky, these two men have a chance for life to change.
Just what will it take to make that happen?
REVIEW:
For a short story, this packs a little punch. From a crappy begin in a sweet little boy’s life to finding his place as he grows up to a man.
Jake had all he could take. For a 12 year old boy, he looked 8. He was abused, malnourished and almost to the point of being raped. He wanted out. And he took his chance. When his shitty so-called ‘parents’ feel asleep one night on a camping trip, Jake ran for all he could. He tripped and fell on a log near some lights and awoke to a new life. Two people from the circus found him and took him in, hiding him from the bad people. Other than his new parents, there was only one other person that really captivated him. Blaine. Blaine noticed him, too, from day one, but Jake was too young to woo. And Blaine was afraid himself. But as the years passed on, Jake was becoming harder to overlook. He was now a beautiful young man and his inner beast screamed mate. Now Blaine has to let go and see Jake for who he is, and who Jake has always wanted him to see.
Jake captured my heart from the first. A sweet little boy yearning for love, affection and food. And stuck with soul sucking assholes. I was so glad when he escaped, but was terrified when the poor baby tripped and fell and caught by people. But thankfully he was found by warm, giving people who wanted to care for him and show him all he had been missing. All was right in my world then lol. And then he laid eyes on Blaine. He had obsessed over Blaine from day one but Blaine just ignored him. What little did he know was that Blaine was running away from his own life. Although it wasn’t as bad as Jake’s. Sometimes you gotta grab the bull by the horns, though. And Jake’s new mom made sure Blaine did.
Not a bad little short story. Angsty but good til the end.
