REVIEW:
Cash Plays is the third book in the Seven of Spades and it is definitely the book that I needed but didn’t necessarily want! If you have read Cordelia Kingsbridge before you will know exactly what I mean! Not only does this author have a way with cliffhangers – this author has a way of taking what you want out of a story and giving you your worst nightmare! This book has all of this in spades if you will excuse the pun.
I found this book quite unnerving where Levi and Dom are concerned. The first two books brought a lot of action that these two men find themselves caught up in. The killer seems to have a unique attachment to both men and is toying with them as they do everything in their power to prevent more deaths. This book felt the same to start with but it’s soon very obvious that that is just an illusion.
As well as the Seven of Spades upping their death toll and always being one step ahead there is a gang war on the streets to contend with. The death knell strikes even closer to home though when Dom takes on a case that sends him spiralling out of control and takes him away from the one thing he needs most in life – Levi. Lies and deceit are strong in this story and the hurt is all on page and very real so prepare yourself for an authentic and painful rollercoaster of a ride that turns everything you believed in and hoped for upside down.
Initially slow the pace picks up quickly and races to the end and it was not the ending we are all hoping for. I have been driving myself crazy trying to work out who the killer is and I still have no clue…literally no clue! Three books in and the story has so many twists and turns I feel even more lost than I did in the beginning. The one constant that remains is that the Seven of Spades seems to have a soft spot for Levi and is almost protecting him and as the person that Levi needs protecting from most is currently Dom where does that leave us going forward? This isn’t a standalone and nor is it anywhere near finished so if you haven’t started it dive into book 1 and buckle up for the ride of your life!
