BLURB:
Petty Officer Bacon, a Navy SEAL and ace sharpshooter, has been on the front lines of more than his fair share of dangerous ops. Yet when a minor injury relegates him to the beta team, he’s tasked with what may be his riskiest assignment yet: babysitting a silver fox journalist, who is the hottest, most charismatic man he’s ever encountered.
Award-winning journalist Spencer Bryant may have been named one of Pride magazine’s most eligible bachelors of the year, but he’s not looking to change his relationship status. He’s a consummate professional who won’t risk his ethics or impeccable reputation by getting involved with a source. Even a sexy-as-hell military man. But while Spencer can resist his physical attraction to Bacon, he has less control over his emotions – especially when the mission goes sideways and the two men are trapped alone.
Getting out of the jungle alive turns out to be easy compared to facing the truth about their feelings for one another back in the real world. And whether or not they can build a future is a different story altogether.
REVIEW:
I’m really enjoying listening to this series. I mean hot guys in uniforms, what more can a girl ask for? Ok, so I really loved the well written story and awesome narration as well, but that might be me being greedy.
Petty Officer Bacon is not happy being side-lined due to a minor injury. Not an injury as such more of a nuisance really if you ask him. His superiors don’t agree and orders him to take it easy to heal. And as a special assignment he gets to babysit a journalist looking to write a story about his team. There’s only a few problems, his team doesn’t know he’s pan, and he can’t seem to keep his eyes off the handsome silver fox he’s been tasked to protect.
Spencer Bryant lives for writing his next big story and after losing a good friend he’s gotten a new mission in life – to tell the world how the military fails their injured vets, doing nothing to help them. Getting involved with a source is not in his plans – nor does he want to change his bachelor status. But things have a way not always going according to plan…
One thing that I’m really enjoying with this series is the diversity in orientation of Albert’s characters. They aren’t all simply gay or possibly bi. They are gay, bi, ace, pan and everything else under that colourful rainbow. And I like it.
I also liked Spencer and Bacon together (not so sure about Bacon’s name though, but that’s just me 😉 ). They fit, just like puzzle pieces they made a whole. They balanced each other, but also challenged each other. And the chemistry they had was really good. But more than that they felt real. Neither was picture perfect, they had flaws, made mistakes. Nothing was OTT or overly dramatic, it was life and they made you believe.
Greg Boudreaux.. what can I tell you about his performance? Honestly nothing new. It was flawless as usual and shows why he’s one of my all time, if not the, favourite narrator of this genre. He brings passion, different voices and he captures the characters to their core and makes them come alive. I can’t tell you one single thing that could be improved, because there isn’t one. If Boudreaux is narrating, I sure will be listening.
Close Quarters was another great addition to this series and I can’t wait to read more about these men. I’m kind of also wondering if everyone on that base is on the rainbow spectrum 😉
