Fate has given Denis beautiful, androgynous features, but also an unfortunate family situation, marred by the premature death of his parents. Drug use and a love for music are the young man’s only ways to cope with the pain, and he ends up wasting his gift, selling his body to the highest bidder, until a wealthy lover—a classical art enthusiast—seeing in him the embodiment of a beauty ideal, gives him affection and the chance at a comfortable life. However, when he meets his true love, Andrea, the young leader of a rock band, Denis has to face those new, heartrending feelings, which might drag him back to the abyss from which he struggled to crawl out.
REVIEW:
Ugh. In all my years of reading, very VERY rarely have I DNF a book. I almost did this one. But I saw it through. I will not lie, this book is not for me. I didn’t care for it at all. Part of it was I didn’t understand some of it. It seemed…..overeducated, if that makes sense. It didn’t flow right either. One minute it was one character’s point of view and in the next paragraph, it was another. I also did not like how the main character, Denis, was portrayed in most of this book.
Denis would do pretty much anything for his next fix. And pretty much did. Anything to feel numb and forget. He hasn’t felt love since his mother died years ago. All he feels now is abuse it seems. He left school, doesn’t work, so he offers his body for his next hit. But one day he runs across a nicer man, who feeds him and gives him money. But won’t take anything. Denis feels dejected. He spirals out of control until one incident makes him change his ways. Or start to. When he and the man’s paths cross again, the man gives Denis a chance at a new life. But Denis and the man’s son ruin it. Denis bounces around until he meets up with a guy who runs a magazine for bands and then meets the man of his dreams. But the man of his dreams, Andrea, has a girlfriend. The passion heats between them anyway until on day when Andrea is ‘found out’. It becomes too much and Denis is on the outside again. For him life is nothing now. Maybe fate will bring him something to live for again.
That description probably sucked. I’m sorry if it does. I tried to hit the basic points but geez. Denis was made out to be a pathetic wimp for !ost of this book and it really annoyed me. He was beaten up and robbed by his step brother all the time. He never stood up for himself. And the few times he tried, he was always beaten down or up. He would literally throw himself at people’s feet to beg them not to leave him. The drug use I at least understood. To escape the crap hole his life was. The man who tried to make his life better? He was married with a shitty son. The man only wanted him for a trophy because of his unique beauty. The son was a douchebag. He purposely used and abused people for fun because he was bored. And Denis would allow himself to be beaten and used by him. I just can’t. I don’t know what else to say because the more I think about Denis, the madder I get. He was made out to be a tool and it ticks me off.
I do not recommend this book.
