Layla Reyne spins off from her pulse-pounding Agents Irish and Whiskey books with Imperial Stout, the first installment in the Trouble Brewing series
It’s a good thing assistant US attorney Dominic Price co-owns a brewery. He could use a cold one. Nic’s star witness has just been kidnapped, his joint operation with the FBI is in jeopardy, his father’s shady past is catching up with him and the hot new special agent in San Francisco is the kind of distraction best handled with a stiff drink.
Kidnap and rescue expert Cameron Byrne has his own ideas about how to handle Nic, but his skills are currently needed elsewhere. The by-the-book FBI agent goes deep undercover as a member of an infamous heist crew in order to save Nic’s witness, break up the crew and close the case before anyone else gets hurt. Nic in particular.
Things heat up when Cam falls for Nic, and the witness falls for Cam. As the crew’s suspicions grow, Cam must decide how far he’s willing to go—and how far into his own dark past he’s willing to dive—to get everyone out alive.
This book is approximately 62,000 words
REVIEW:
I couldn’t wait to read this book. I became such a fan of Layla’s work in Agents Irish & Whiskey. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE them!! I even got them on audiobook so that I can listen to them on my commute to work. So, when I saw that she had another series brewing…I was all over it!!! I am so damn glad that I did. This was great!!
Nic Price…this guy is pretty damn amazing. I really like how he’s this ex-Navy Seal and how he’s a real self-made man. He was born into wealth and yet, he’s made it on his own. Having his father disown him and call him soft…that truly changed the trajectory of his life and in my humble opinion…for the better. I like that he’s the guy who is a doer…he will do what it takes to make sure that the job gets done and done right. I liked that Nic is a good man who has always has the best heart in completing his job. To serve the American people…first in his military career and then as an assistant US attorney.
Cameron Byrne another self made man who had taken himself out of a bad situation and turned his life around to be a better person. To help others when they need it most. Cam has his own battles to bear and they weigh heavy in his heart and in his mind. Yet, he still gets up everyday and does his best to make a difference. Can is another good man that has his share of issues to bear, however, he does it bear it well.
I have to say that the mystery/suspense part of this book was great. There are actually two mysteries happening in this story and that was reallly good. I was trying to figure out what the hell was happening and it was good. I was confused and angry and I couldn’t put the book down until I finished it. I was so thrown into the story from the first words…the way that Layla grabs you from the go and doesn’t let go…it’s just perfect. The twists and turns that confused me and really made me put on my thinking cap and still not figure out what the hell was happening…golden. Absolutely golden!!
Even after finishing…I was like…what just happened and when is the next book coming…I need to have it and NOW….I want my questions answered. Layla does a great job of feeding us bits and pieces of the picture and not quite everything…so when some of the action was happening…I’m still not sure if it’s what Nic thinks it is. I think that there is more involved. I want to know more about Cam…there is so much that they are both still hiding and I want my questions answered.
This book was great…you get to see our friends from the Irish and Whiskey, Aiden and Jamie, Danny and Mel…we get some new characters that added greatly to the characters as well as the plotlines. You just HAVE to pick up this book. I swear, you won’t be disappointed in the least.
