REVIEW:
In the first, Brioche for Two by V.L. Locey, I think my heart exploded. It was so sweet. Like a fairy tale. Isamu works in a bakery across the street from a park where Brian orders 2 brioche and 2 coffees. Isamu thinks they are for Brian and his date, but it actually for Brian and Isamu. Isamu has dreamed of Brian for a while and Brian has wanted to ask Isamu out for just as long. He finally gets the nerve and Isamu is swept away in a passionate romance with Brian.
This is such a sweet little story. I’m going to have to go find the rest of this story and see how these two fair. It almost feels like a Cinderella story. Just all heartfelt and mushy.
C.M. Valencourt writes Sweeter Than Honey, where two men are all but enemies over a misunderstanding. Wyatt is a beekeeper and takes very good care of his bees. He’s seen the things some people do such as clipping wings and he’s not for that. He wants his bees healthy and happy. But Grayson thinks one bad beekeeper is all bad beekeepers. And he’s doing his best to shut Wyatt down. Wyatt makes a compromise for Grayson to see how he works and he does. Grayson realizes he’s gotten it all wrong and does all he can to make it right. Including adding Wyatt’s honey to his recipes.
Definitely enemies to lovers here lol. These two reminded me of children with how they sometimes behaved but when there is miscommunication, wrong facts and misunderstandings, it leads to nowhere fast. But when Grayson saw Wyatt was kind to his bees and does all he can for them, he realized he was wrong and made amends. Takes a big person to admit they were wrong. But it frees things up when you do. And these two were better for it.
Next is Special Nights, by DJ Jamison. Sam deals with severe insomnia, and decided one night to go to the 24 hr cafe. He meets grace on legs in the form of Hunter as his waiter. Because of his insomnia he goes and visits Hunter off and on and they get to know each other. Hunter doesn’t have a lot of free time with work and dealing with an ailing mother, but they do make a few dates and it’s something neither will forget. As they get to know each other, it becomes much more serious, with a sad, yet happy ending.
Hunter is just the sweetest thing. I loved him in this story. He have up his dreams to care for his ailing mom. And while he is stuck in a dead end job, it was his mom’s favorite place to eat and he feels closer to her there. Just incredible values in that boy. And Sam just supported and stood there to make it all better for Hunter. These two were a great pair.
In Cathy Brockman’s, Winter’s Chill, there’s a power outage from a snow storm in the town Jeffrey and Lane are in. Jeffrey is fixing up a family house and has no plans to stay. But a huge tree branch falling on him outside puts him in Lane’s path and the chemistry is explosive. Problem is, Jeffrey isn’t out and Lane isn’t going back in the closet for anyone. They decide to give it a go to see if it can work out and Jeff needs to finally let the cat out of the bag.
This was was cute little story. The only problem I have with stories like these is yes there may be chemistry but you can’t often base relationships on sex. But if there is communication and friendship along with the chemistry, most often it works. But for a happy, quick, sexy read, it is definitely a go to.
Nothing like sun and sand in Beach Boys by Annabelle Jacobs. Russ got invited on a girl’s weekend when one of the girls broke her ankle. Seems like it will be a great realxing week, especially with the eye candy on the beach. When he and his friend, Sarah, go walking on the beach, they encounter three gorgeous surfer calling it quits for the day. One surfer, Blake, seems interested in Russ, but Russ doesn’t see how when he’s not as fit as Blake. But chemistry is there and Blake wants to try more with Russ, especially after a very heated kiss.
Such a sweet story. And I love that one of the main characters is a bit more ‘norm’. And the fact that a ripped hunk can be attracted to someone who isn’t makes it even better. It was a sweet intimate story.
In Who Do You Love, My Valentine by EJ Smyth, holy moley you’ve got some smoking hot steamy sexy scenes. Nox is Eros’s son and is helping dear ole dad on Valentine’s Day. But he has fallen for a human and that human, Matt, is who Nox is supposed to stick with an arrow. Not only does he not want to, but he misses who he is supposed to hit. Matt, being openly gay for years, is suddenly infatuated with a woman. After the confusion starts to wear off, he realizes he wants to know more about Nox. And he gets what he wants. He chases after Nox and finds him in all his godly glory. But he wants him too much to stay angry and finally gets what he’s wanted all along.
Whew. When it gets to the sex scenes with Matt and Nox, daaaaaamn. It is smoking. Nox feeds Matt every desire possible and leaves him sated and so drained. He’s never felt this way before. If you want a short story that will set you on fire, you need to read this one!
Chris McHart writes a sweet story, Favorite Flowers. Gabe has decided he’s never dating again. His friend is trying to set him up, but he’s determined to hold out. Until he meets Jason. Jason keeps coming in week after week after buying the first set of flowers to buy more. And little by little Gabe is losing his will to hold on to that no dating rule. Finally one day, Jason comes in and asks for Gabe’s favorite flowers, and for a date. Little by little, they get to know each other and fall in love. When Jason’s divorce is final, everything seems to fall into place, and everything between them blossoms.
This story was sad but happy. With all both of them had been through and we’re going through, I wouldn’t want to date again either. But they took things slow and let things fall as they may. It almost didn’t work, but each had to learn to let the past go and move on. That’s how it should always be. Live each moment like it’s new and fresh and let the bad go.
And finally, we The Last Chance by RJ Scott. Luke has been in love with Justin since freshman year. He thought he might have him as a friend at the beginning, but after one explosive frottage filled night, Justin runs away and doesn’t speak to Like again. Luke is crushed and spends the next four years comparing every man to Justin. Now he just wants to get through these last few weeks of school and move on. But at a party Justin’s friends have another plan in mind. They try to make things right for how they themselves have treated Luke and beg for Luke not to hold it against Justin. Then Justin tries to make it right and explain. But Luke doesn’t know if he can forgive. He’s hurt and humiliated. But something Justin says tears his walls down and he gives it a chance and life finally seems to have new meaning.
Oh I felt so bad for Luke. I wanted to punch Justin so bad for him. And I wondered like Luke did if it was all a joke. My heart was going to shatter. But Luke saw that Justin was really trying to make it right and gave Justin his chance. I still wanted to smack Justin for waiting so long but at least he finally pulled his head out of his ass lol.
This was a really good anthology. The stories in it were cuddly, warm, sexy and cute. I really think you all will enjoy it as much as I did. It’s a perfect book to curl up with and a variety of stories to keep you going.
