TITLE: The Dragon’s Thief
AUTHOR: Riza Curtis
PUBLISHER: Self Published
LENGTH: 65 pages
RELEASE DATE: July 6, 2018
BLURB:
Chester. Magpie shifter, renowned thief.
Chester knows better than to get involved when a dragon requests his services. Anyone who steals from a dragon’s hoard is not to be screwed with. There’s something alluring about Michal though, and Chester’s always loved playing with fire…
Michal. Dragon shifter, first-born son.
Michal knows exactly who’s taken the centrepiece of his hoard—his estranged brother. The one person he can’t touch thanks to family politics. It seems simple enough to hire the little magpie shifter to retrieve what is his. But, Chester is nothing like Michal expected, and in the end he might need to decide whether the last piece of his mother is worth more than the man who could own his heart.
REVIEW:
I liked this one; I was initially drawn to it because there were dragons but I stayed for the surprisingly sweet story I found myself with instead. Chester was hands down my favorite character in the book; he’s snarky, a bit brash and completely unapologetic about what he does to make a living. When he’s approached by Michal to retrieve an item for him, he’s a bit leery but ultimately can’t resist the challenge the job presents. The fact that Michal is attractive, and dangerous, has nothing whatsoever to do with his decision. Nope. Not one thing. Michal just wanted to get the centerpiece of his hoard back and be done with it but can’t help but find himself drawn to the little magpie shifter he’s hired for the job. Its rare to find someone that has no problem standing up to him and he can’t help but find himself intrigued.
While light on some details surrounding the actual job Chester has been hired for, I really liked this one. The interactions between Chester and Michal were flirtatious and enjoyable and didn’t fill me up with too much UST to be unbearable. It was also really nice to see the alternating chapters between the two main characters as it gave me a good chance to get to know them both, which I appreciated. The best part of the story, for me, was watching as Michal’s priorities changed; he was still determined to get what he wanted but seeing the realization that his wants were no longer what he thought they were was great.
Overall this made for a nice, lighthearted read that brought a smile to my face. If you enjoy dragon/shifter stories and are looking for something a bit lighter to wile away your afternoon, I’d give this one a look.
